I am near tears just sitting here trying to type this.
The usual routine would be me to come to a bright energetic puppy greeting me at its crate but to my surprise I only found a sad lethargic Boba who hasn't touched his food the whole day.
Boba is usually in the crate (no more than 4 hours) in a work day. I took him out yesterday morning like I usually do, he went potty and went about his business. The stool was hard, and he was his jumpy self. I played with him for a half an hour, fed him breakfast, which is my routine schedule before I head for work. Then my bf would take over after, because he would leave for work later than I would. After 10:00AM he is in in a crate. Around 1:30-2 he would be let out to go potty and be with my roommates, depending if they had school or not (which they didn't), would be able to stay with them downstairs for 3 hours. I come home around 6:00 in the evening only to find out that Boba hasn't touched his food at all, and wasn't as excited as he usually gets when his mommy comes home. (He was in his crate after 4:00)
I gathered info from my roommates, that's how I was able to give you the information above. They said that he was more tired than usual during the day, but they didn't think anything wrong because puppies usually rest and sleep a lot. I called the emergency pet clinic in the area, and they told me to wait a couple of hours. During the hours of 6-8, Boba had started vomitting, but nothing would come out. He hasn't drank any water at all, though he tried to play with his favorite teddy bear, he would get tired easily then lay down. By 9:00 he started to throw up foamy light yellowish/greenish stuff, and it continued to about 3 more times. I decided to take him to the clinic.
They did the parvo test, bloodwork, as well as some xrays- and all turned out negative. There was no obstruction that they could see, parvo was negative, and bloodwork all came out great. After 3 hours of waiting, the doctor had finally called us in, and told us it was GI disorder - Gastro-Intestinal - They gave him an anti-vomitting shot, fluids in his system, instructions to fast him for 8 hours, and to continue monitoring him for more vommitting later.
It's 12:00 now here in California, and Boba has thrown up twice. I fed him a teaspoon of a bland diet that the doctor gave us to take home, and he's drank water this morning at around 8. He seems still to be lethargic and I decided to call a local vet only to find out that this is normal and 50% usually make it and the other 50% usually don't.
Has anyone had any experience with this? My puppy is so young, he will be 4 months old by the 29th of this month. He is a shih tzu by the way. I am so worried about him. He is up-to-date with his shots and all the tests came out negative. I am so confused. The doctor from the emergency clinic has told me to bring him back if he shows no improvement. I don't know if throwing up twice during the course of 12 hours is a good thing versus the way he was throwing up last night which was atleast 5 times in one hour.
Any help or advice please... I am very sad that he is suffering like this. He looks at me sometimes, and I think he wants me to take it all away, but I can't. And even though he's sick, he will still nibbles at his teddy bear.
I'm sorry if this is long.
