Works amazing on the shelties! It really really really helps during shedding season. I'd never use it on the papillons because they have no undercoat, though.

Don't overdo it, of course, but I find it to be very effective on my double-coated dogs.

Raising an old thread...

Do you think it'd be a bad idea to use it on a lab that swims in fairly cold water?

I'm worried about taking out his "protective" warmth layer.

As a groomer I don't use it. I've heard of others using and saying it works well but for me it's not worth it. Most of my clients are little dogs without double coats plus I find that my forced air dryer works very well on getting the shedding hair out. Even my cat doesn't seem to mind it...now I can't say that for all cats.

I can't see the harm in it since it takes out the undercoat that is shedding for the season. What protects the lab from water is their guard hair....that usually stays. They only lose guard hair here and there just like we lose some hair everyday.

Hmm, okay, thanks for the tip! Just want to make sure I don't freeze him in an attempt to ease up on the shedding!

ooh I bought a furminator last week and my husband figured how to make our own for free so we took it back before even opening it--I figure I'll post a different post on that now--I intended to but forgot!

I got one for cheaper on Amazon recently and YES it works. It is amazing on my long haired cat and even pulls a lot of fur off the Pug

Awesome! I've been wanting to save some Strider fur to make a scarf or something. I don't think I could do it with the cat though. She's kinda gross, like....crusty tail gross.

Oh, I'm not really going to do anything with is... LOL... I just wanted to know how much fur I'm getting off. :D The wonderful thing is that the furminator ONLY gets out undercoat.. only a few guard hairs come off per maybe 200 undercoat hairs.. I love it.

You should have seen the mega furball Nolu and I made with some of Bamm's fur... we of course let it fly freely away in the breeze. Released it like a dove.. it was almost magical.... errr... almost. (I'm weird I guess)

I have to say... I want one

I love it one Ruckus (sheltie)
we use it at the grooming shop, but we use "Shed Patrol" it has a specail shampoo and solution that kicks butt. Its about time for me to use it on Ruckus again!

but it does work better on cats, or my rabbit then any dog i have seen. I only use the brush on my rabbit, because rabbits should NEVER have a bath.

I didn't think there was a need to start a new Furminator thread, so I'm posting here.
I got a Furminator yesterday and tried it with Millie. Of course the blades are sort of harsh so you don't use it like a regular brush (ie. letting the bristles brush the skin), but it was great, I got so much fur off. I didn't want to spend over $30 for a brush, but I'm glad I got it. It doesn't work on Lucy with her short, sleek single coat, but it's fabulous for Millie.
