Is this a tool worth investing in? Strider is beginning to blow his puppy coat, and I know after that it will be a constant battle against the borzoi hair. I see these things, but they're expensive. Do folks on here recommend them?

Mine works extremely well. I get loads of hair out of the furry BCs and Zaphod - not so much out of Eve unless she's blowing her coat.

I know many people with them, they work amazingly well. My guys don't shed much, but if they did I would soooo buy one. I have watched them in action and was quite impressed. The only thing I have heard is that you shouldn't use it too much, or you can make your dog bald.

YES! They do work incredibly well and are definatley worth the investment :)

It does to a point through depend on the hair type of your dog (or so I've noticed). A dog with fine hair seems to suit it best, it also works well on lab type coats. Smooth coated dogs don't need it (it doesn't take anything out, the hair is too short), and wire haired dogs aren't suited to it.

We get a whole other dog off Sarama whenever we use it. However, it does seem to sting a bit . . . its worth it, in my mind, because her shedding is itching her . . . but be gentle with it . . . its a pretty powerful tool.

i love love LOVE my furminator...with two german shedders, ahem, shepherds, its the best thing we've found. I could see it not working as well with a shorter coated dog though...and yeah, with one of my dogs, I have to be careful not to press to hard. His skin is a little more sensitive -but he does his excited i can hardly contain myself dance when he see's me pull it out, so it can't hurt him. :lol-sign:

I haven't used one before, but I'm going after one when I get the extra money. It would probably do nothing for Lucy, but I think it would be useful for Millie for when she blows her coat.

i used to work in a pet store and as such, i've demonstrated the furminator on waaaay too many dogs. it doesn't work well with long haired coats, it just ripped out my OES's fur (but he doesn't noticeably shed anyway), but it did great on smooth to medium coats, surprisingly well on the dalmatian mix's coat, and her fur lays smooth like a dal (sheds with a vengeance). The only issue with it is it makes a huge mess and takes a long time to get all that dead hair out. I don't own one myself because of the price - I would need the largest size.

Bamboo has recently come out with their own version of the furminator which I'll probably buy as soon as I find a store that carries it...

I tried my neighbors one on Middie. OH. MY. GOD.

We're buying one.
lol

When we get our tax return we'll pick one up for Strider then. He's been leaving a fine dusting of borzoi hairs everywhere he walks. Thanks everybody!

HANDFULS of hair with only ten minutes of brushing, Romy. It was amazing. I am in love. I could have kissed it. I would have kissed it. I will kiss it, next time I go visit my neighbor.

I'm not impressed with how it works on Pit. His fur is kind of long, and the Furminator doesn't seem to get through the guard hairs. It works well on his front legs, though. I never thought a dog could shed so much off their legs!
It did wonders for getting his puppy fur out and when his fur was still nice and short, though. I absolutely loved it then.

Haven't tried one on Bamm. I honestly think I'd like to try it on him first before making the decision to spend that kind of money on one. They look absolutely amazing though. :)

It usually does work on tollers. It worked miracles on the two tollers at my old work, but they had much shorter hair than Pit.
What ends up happening with Pit is the guard hairs get stuck in the Furminator and get ripped out. None of that fluffy undercoat gets taken out with it like in the demonstrations unless I use it on his front legs and sometimes his neck. Maybe Pit just doesn't really shed all that much and that's why it's not getting anything.
