The trick it that you are not really supposed to apply pressure while Furminating. It can take too much hair, irritate the skin, and casue sores if you really push on the brush. And you are supposed to hold the brush at a 90 degree angle, it grips the hair better without cutting/damaging the hair.

That said, I have tried it on a few short haired dogs and it didn't get any hair. It works best on plush coats, not coats that are extra long or coats that lie extra flat.

It's all good, I haven't had any problems with overuse of the furminator since I got it, but then again I only really use it when they are blowing their coats.
