Hey guys,

I have now begun full kennel training in which Tasha is being confined for 3-4 hour periods inside of her kennel and I have now eliminated the newspapers on the bathroom floor.

It seems to be going well so far... she hasn't messed in the kennel nor has she destroyed her blanket...

However, I believe there might still be some separation anxiety... she doesn't seem overly fond of the kennel itself (I've tried to make it a positive experience).. and she apparently barks and whines for 1-2 hours.... is this going to subside with time?

Both of my dogs were kenel trained, but not by me. Both really like the kenel still. Riley prefers staying outside at bedtime, but he has to ruff it and sleep in the house on a cozy bed :) Hana doesn't care as long as she has a blanket to curl up on. A friend of mine has 3 dogs and he kenel trained them all. They too like sleeping in the kenel.

That may or may not be separation anxiety. It sounds more like a dog that doesn't like being confined to such as small space. Some dogs just don't take well to being caged for long periods of time.

I agree with Renee. Kennels work for some dogs, but not all of them. You could probably eliminate the whining by taking the crate into a well-ventilated, puppy proof room and leaving the door open so she can come and go if she pleases and play in the room while you're gone. Give her lots of toys to enjoy, and that way she'll have a nice little den of her own (the crate) for when she needs to nap. I have several crates in my house, and not a single one of them has a door on it. I know the doors are probably in a pile somewhere in the garage. :) The purpose of a crate should be to give your dog a little private "bedroom" of her own where she can go to have some "me" time.
