Which one do you use for your pet during the summer? I'm getting ready to order some for our pups and wasn't sure which to get. I've never used the Advantix - but it's what everyone seems to point me towards.

Thanks,

-Ashley

I've tried so many different things from natural flea control to Advantage - Frontline PLUS has been the only thing to work - and here in FL fleas are nasty!

I use Advantage on the cats cause they stay inside. Not much risk for ticks. Frontline Plus for the doggies.

I use frontline plus. We don't have a flea problem here but there are ticks aplenty during the late summer months. It's worked wonderfully.

Both frontline and advantage are good quality products, just keep in mind that Advantix is very toxic to cats, so if you have cats in your household, avoid it.

Otherwise you can't really go wrong with either one, but you will have to find out which works better for you, since results can differ on the area where you live.

For example, for me Advantage works really great but Frontline does nothing - while I tested it, my dog was reinfested within 3 days. A friend of mine in Florida has had exactly the opposite experience, for her dogs Frontline worked but Advantage didn't.

I wouldn't recommend Revolution, since it has a fairly poor track record in regards to adverse reactions compared to other products and it is also absorbed into the bloodstream, which doesn't happen with Advantage and Frontline.

Frontline gave my dogs huge allergic reactions, so we switched to advantage and its been great.

I use Advantage for my girls. It seems to work great. On the other hand, I tried Frontline once, and I swear the fleas were laughing at me.

I forget now what it was called but the vet I went to when we first moved to Madison gave us a pill that worked on both heart worms and fleas. I gave it to Mojo once a month and didn't have a single problem with him. If it's available from our current vet I will try to get that again...

For some reason, most topicals don't work well on Zeus. I still find fleas.

I just use good ol' flea shampoo. I also use a flea/ant killer on the yard. It's worked great for us.

I've found the same thing to be true here in east Tennessee as far as the Frontline/Advantage, Mordy. The Frontline Plus works very well, but the Advantage makes no appreciable difference at all.

My vet doesn't recommend the use of the systemic anti-parasitics for fleas - thinks it's just not a great idea to put those kinds of chemicals inside your dog, and I definitely agree with him!

Good point, Renee - I shall talk to our current vet further about this... I actually have some Frontline Pluss left over from 2 years ago... how long of a shelf life does this stuff have? Does anyone know?

I use frontline plus. I heard there's one out there that repells mosquitos??? I was wondering if I should be worried about mosquitos because they're pretty thick sometimes when we go camping.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to get them some Frontline Plus ordered this week - as we had no winter I'm expecting the fleas in mass - trying to get ahead of the game.
