I unfortunately have to give Scrappy away to a good home. He needs a lot more attention than what we give him (my husband & I). We both work full time and go to school. I feel bad for him because he just sits there and sleeps the majority of the days. I do play catch with him sometimes while I do my school work or something.
I just think he deserves an EXCITING life that he's not getting with us. I love him SO MUCH and I know he feels the same, however I feel bad for him. I am looking for a secure home for him. With a family that will give him the attention he deserves. He's friendly, krate trained and I (the proud mama) trained him to ring bells I have on the back door when he needs to "go". This is a very special dog and I'm only looking for the best, the patient and the not so busy family!
He's 1yr old, tricolored, and adorable. If you are interesed or have any questions please PM me.

I am sorry you have to re home your dog. Is it spayed or neutered yet?

Just a small thought, do not free to good home. Ask something even $25 for him just to make sure if they are serious enough to pay for him then likely they will value him a bit more. I know you want to be sure of a good home but once you give him or sell him away he is no longer yours. Which means if they sell him for research there is nothing you can do, so maybe if you sell him it will mean more. JMO though and good luck.

Where are you located? I know someone who would like a smaller dog, that is already house trained.

Edited later:

Sorry I see now it says North Carolina sorry long drive about 20 hours minimum.

Awww... I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. But you sound like a very responsible owner who wants the best all the way around! Is Scrappy full beagle? I could hook you up with a rescue group in your area if you're interested. Just let me know where you reside. You can PM me if you prefer it that way...

Eli could probably get you in touch with a great rescue. She's got the hook-ups... LOL If not though, you should ask a small fee, just to make sure that the person really wants him, and that will show initiative on their part that they are willing to do whatever for him. Sorry, you are having to give him up.

If you can't find him a home I do run a rescue so I could try and re home him but I live in Canada. Just a thought better then putting him down or sending him to a shelter.

I would not only ask for a minimal fee (rescues usually charge $100 - $150! not to say you should do that. I think 25$ would show good faith. Other things I would do... do a home check/visit to make sure he'll have a good environment and everything they said is true (fenced in yard, etc.). Then if they have/had another pet, ask for their vet's name and call the vet for records. Seems like a lot, but that's what the rescue groups do! ;)

I agree 100% with this and it is well worth it for a loved pet.

I did not say she was putting him down I said as a last resort it is better then that. But I would be putting the dog in the kennel so I would defiantly not be an ideal home so better for her to find a home herself.

Oh, I rather keep him that to put him down, or even take him to a place where he might be at risk - he's better off bored here w/me than to be abused, sheltered or even put down! I have an issue with kenneling him when we've gone out of town - which may I say has only happend once - after that - never again! I felt horrible for him!
I agree about charging something for him -
He has not been neutered. And yes, he is a pure bred (sp?) Beagle.
Thanks for all your feedback everyone!

Yeah, Charlie's bored at home a lot (of course he has a bone to chew and everything) and he's fine!! Just make sure to take Scrappy for a walk when you can, and take him to the park every now and then...

What I do with Charlie is put him on a dog run sometimes and bring him inside other times.

So, are you interested in hooking up with a rescue group that will place him to a good home? If so, I need to know what area you live in...

Well, my husband doesn't want us to use the rescue - it really helps knowing that some of you have kinda the same issue I have w/Scrappy - a bored dog...I just feel so bad for him and think he should be more active! After reading the thread on the "10 commandments of pet ownership" someone posted - I was just in tears!! :(
I honestly wasn't thinking of how he would feel or what he would think if we would find a family for him. Specially since we had him since he was like 3 months! I don't want him to think we don't love him!!
Thanks everyone! Thank you Femke for posting it!
So are there anyother busy people in here?!? What do you do to give your pup more attention? How do you find the time? Any other recommendations?
(I'm so glad I found these forums)!!

When you are away--a puzzle toy and a stuffed kong would be excellent to entertain him. When you are home, play with him, brush him, walk him...I think you should keep him. He loves you and you obviously love him. He could sure be in a lot worse home, you are not abusing him at all, you are a great mom.
