Not sure this is the right section for problems we have found with dog food/ treats so mods please move this thread if it is in the wrong place.

I have only brought a couple of Merrick items over the last year because I know they have had some problems with quality control and there have been some canned food that has had rubber bands in them, etc. My understanding through vendors is that they have taken care of these quality control issues. SO imagine my surprise when I am pulling out a couple of Lamb Filet Squares only to find one with metal in it…

ACK!
This doesn't surprise me!

I'm glad you found it before one of the dogs ate it!

This is INSANE.
Let us know what they say.

Sadly, it doesn't surprise me, either. Merrick has, unfortunately, had quite a few quality control issues over the years.

Ok, so I spoke with a very nice woman in Customer service and I emailed her the pictures so she can forward them to her quality Control Department. She took down all my info including where they had been purchased. She was very, very apologetic and asked if there was anything they could do for me including sending me some free treats/ food and I had to tell her that I have had reservations in the past about feeding Merrick products simply because of quality control issues I have understood them to have. I told her I wouldn’t feel comfortable feeding their products at this time but thanked her for the offer….

Becca.. it was PURE LUCK that the pups didn't eat this. I can't believe I caught it at the last second.

that is absolutely horrifying!

It really makes one think about checking ALL dog food or ANY food that we give our dogs.

I'd have died!
And you were most likely FAR MORE nice about it than I would have been.
But you're a sweetheart like that!:D

They need to take this SERIOUSLY.
This is FAR from the first time this has happened. It has happened AT LEAST 4 other times that I've actually heard about!
Imagine if a dog (any dog) got a hold of something like that and ate it! What would it do to the poor dog??

Then the poor dog would be injured and that company would be in SERIOUS trouble.

No CM, I didn't think of that... I should have huh? I basically just told them I wanted them to take care of the problem, that I didn't want anything else, just for them to address the qc problem.

Shelly-

Can I share this story and pics and product info with my pit bull forum?
I know a TON that feed Merrick there and I want them to be aware that this is happening a LOT.

In my case I got lucky, but I figured ranting and raving wasn’t gonna get me anything. It was better to be calm and rational about it. I totally do understand that things happen, but it seems to me that they have had problems for awhile now and they are not resolved as they should be. They have lost a customer, and one who was hesitant to buy their products in the first place and now they have been made aware of that. I am doing more simply by posting this problem on a couple boards and making buyers aware that they are a company to pay close attention to what you are feeding.
