I'm pro-crop (not that I would ever crop Romeo lol..) but I would only do it if the breeder cropped the entire litter with somebody they knew and trusted did good work. Which I thought was the "norm"

I don't think I would ever go looking for somebody to crop my own dog passed very young puppy hood. I'd imagine healing takes longer and at that point I'd honestly probably think my pups ears are adorable and not consider it worth the drive to find somebody who I trusted to do it, or the time, effort or healing process for my dog.

that said, if I really DID want to, I would ask around other owners/vet/forums I trusted for advice on where their dogs ears were cropped (some croppers are very well known and specialize in it) and ask for references and pictures of the finished product and only then would I do it.

Here is an APBT forum thread about cropping later. Quite a few people against it but a couple of show people have said they have done them/seen them done at up to 12 months without a problem: • View topic - Age limit for ear crop??

One of them posting about later crops was Grant's breeder. His brother was one that was cropped a little later by his owner. They had kept him natural as he was expected to go show in Europe, but then his ears did this...

After...

And as an adult...

He still went to Europe, but it limited the number of countries he was able to show in. He was able to finish in Belgium and Luxembourg as they still allowed cropped dogs to be shown.

:yikes:

I agree - I don't think there was any worry that his ears wouldn't stand due to being cropped later LOL

Some of them can pull it off, especially if they have a higher ear set. Junior was not one of those dogs. Luce comes to mind as a dog that can pull it off.

I was just going to say Luce does it well, but then she does everything well :D lol

Ella is another one I love the bat ears on.

I DO like the crop though. Juniors and Grants are both very very good crops, and look very good on the dogs. If I were to get an AmStaff, I'd like one like Grant plz :D I love the fawn with black points, and Grant is a stunning dog.

Notice I said AmStaff? :D I'd take Hazmat any day of the week, though my house probably could only handle him for a day or two :p

And he does the uppy ears very well too :D

LOL its okay, he's not bred for show and even he gets called "unfortunate" ears by SBTers. Ah well, he's a funny looking dog ears or not, they only add to the gremlin look.

I think he's cuuute. And if I wasn't going to show a APBT/AmStaff/SBT, I'd leave them with whatever ears they happened to have :D
