Oh I'm so screwed at this forum... I love my maligators and even got them Alligator collars to encourage the connection!
LOL! A vet I like *lovingly* refers to Filas as "alligators with fur." He's had a few interesting experiences with dogs whose owners stupidly did NOT socialize them.

As far as breed nicknames, I figure that's up to owners of those breeds. I tend to refer to breeds I don't own by their proper names, out of respect. If I'm among friends and we're talking about their dogs, though, I'll use whatever reference they do if not the proper name.

If its a person calling a dog they know well that as a loving nickname I have no issues. If its an attempt to white wash a breed and give it a new name in the eye of JQ Public then I am against it.

The only persons I have met in person who do that (attempt to wash a breed of it's character) honestly are the Best Friends representative.

Most people I have met honestly are to careful to bad mouth Best friends rescue due to all the good they do even if they are a bit on the fanatical side.

I just have to say that I think Maligator is the cutest breed nickname EVER.
Agreed!

I'm not fond of "pibble" in regular conversation, it just sounds weird and "baby-talk" to me. But if someone is loving on their Pit, and say something like "Oh what a sweet cutey pibble, I wove my wittle pibble" then...it's just annoying.

Do you also dislike "Melonhead", "Maligator" or "Malinut"?

And why or why not?

I see them differently. All of the above are descriptive of a Malinois. What the hell is a Pibble? To me, it sounds like a cutesy word for an incontinence problem. It's disgusting and I don't want it associated with my dog. The same with Pittie. It sounds like Pity, which isn't a particularly positive word.

I dont mind as i said. With people I know I would refer to my dogs by many weird names.
I dont mind pibble for Puck at home and around those i know *Know* dogs, or are my friends. I wouldnt use it out in public though.

I do like maligator though.... Had not heard that one before

As long as no one starts using the term yapillon, I'm good. That one annoys me because my dogs really aren't yappy.

But "pibble" also rhymes with "kibble," which makes it convenient for announcing meals "Kibbles for Pibbles!"

I suppose I don't see what the big deal is. If someone wants to call their dog something in the privacy of their own home, who cares?

The term vaguely reminds me of how my baby sister couldnt pronounce "pit bulls' and settled on calling them 'pimples.' :lol-sign:

I agree with the incontinence issue. I have always thought it sounded like piddle. I think it's demeaning to pit bulls. But, meh, I figure no matter how many of us dislike it, everyone who uses it will still use it.

I had to read this thread to even find out what "pibble" was supposed to mean. Gotta say, I don't think it fits at all. won't be a word I ever use.
