My corgi Darci is 2 1/2 and has had 3 different uti's, she starts urinating pure blood.
Took her to the after hours vet tonight her ph was 9 he said target would be 6.5, she had a lot of striuvate crystals.

He suggested a food change with a culture and ultrasound if her urine is still high in ph after a week or so.

What foods are good at helping to lower ph ?

He also put her on antibiotics and pain meds, she's resting well on the back of the couch right here beside me, my poor baby.

Btw I also have a 5 month old corgi and would like to feed them the same food, but will do 2 different foods if need be.

They are currently eating natural balance venison and rice.

I would really appreciate any advice.

Poor baby! I would look into feeding a higher quality food such as Solid Gold or Innova, but if she's that prone to crystals, I'd wait and see what Mordy recommends.

I hope the pain meds are helping!

If struvite crystals are an issue, a food with a low mineral content and a higher protein percentage would be your best choice.

You can also try adding a supplement like Wysong Biotic pH - (an acidifier), but your dog may not necessarily tolerate it well. I tried using it for one of my cats who has struvite issues, but it made him throw up.

When you say higher protein, do you mean foods like Innova Evo ?

I dont have a store near me but I can order it.

For lower mineral counts, is that the ash ?

I had read on Eagle pack they have a holistic fish and anchovy that helps with these types of crystals, is this true ?

Thanks for all your help.

No, Evo wouldn't be a good choice in this case, since it has a very high mineral content. It's correct that you'll want to look at ash content, it's the combined amount of all minerals in the food. The EP fish is low in ash and might work.

However, feeding canned/fresh food instead of dry, or at least including a good amount in the diet will help to keep the urine diluted, since ithas a higher moisture content. Adding water to any kibble meal would also be good.
