food transition

I got her! I got her! She is 8 weeks and just adorable. Very healthy and I just love the breeder to death! I was sent home with the weeks supply of puppy food but she was feeding Bil-Jac. I put a minimal amount of DVP and the rest was her reg. food. How long should the transition take? I want to make sure and do everything right! Thanks for the help.

From the food sub-forum:

Just slowly reduce the Bil-Jac each day until you are on the *_new food*___ exclusively. During the switching process, you don't have to make sure the calories are exact, just make sure he's on about 1 and 1/2 cups once he only eats the _*new food*__. For example, if you are feeding 2 cups *_previous food*__:

Day 1: 1 and 3/4 cups Nutro 1/4 cup EP Power (mix kibble together)
Day 2: 1 and 3/4 cups Nutro 1/4 cup EP Power (mix kibble together)
Day 3: 1 and 1/2 cups Nutro and 1/2 cup EP Power (mix kibble together)
Day 4: 1 and 1/2 cups Nurto and 1/2 cup EP Power (mix kibble together)
Day 5: 1 cup Nutro and 1 cup EP Power (mix kibble together)
Day 6: 1/2 cup Nutro and 1 and 1/2 cups EP Power (mix kibble together)
Day 7: 1 and 1/2 cups EP Power

The 2 cups number won't really apply to you. Just make the change gradually and start with mostly Bil-jac and end with the kibble of your choice.

Good post Herschel ... slowly is the name of the game ! In fact I would stay on what he's used to for a couple of days to settle in . That way if diarrhea sets in from stress, it cna't be blamed on the food .

Thanks! Sam is an ASD and I am using the ultra formula for all life stages. Is that a good choice?
