Renee, I had a friend who gave me an original recipe for Chai Tea that she had gotten from an Indian woman. It had been in her family from years. I don't have it with me right now but it was wonderful. When I made it with my friend we'd crush everything in a mortar and pestle first. Really, really good.

I've always wanted to try real chai. The store stuff is way too sweet - yech! Now that I've found a milk I like I don't think I'd mind tea with milk in it so much.

I've made it with Vanilla Soy milk - which I like. And it was really nice.

You notice a difference between brands of milk? Or between lactosefree - organic - goat ...

I've heard of Organic Farms but not the others. I don't really like milk. I used to. I do enjoy Vanilla Soy Milk. Or Chocolate but I don't buy it that much. My bf likes it and he's not really into alternatives.

What should I make for supper?

I'm thinking about doing a one-pot think and maybe some garlic bread on the side. We've ate a lot of garlic bread recently but haven't gotten tired of it yet! :)

One can never get tired of garlic bread! If you've got pasta, milk and any kind of parmesan around the house you can always make an alfredo. You can lightly cook and toss in whatever vegies are about the house.

When you make vegetable soup, have you ever tossed in a few (4-6) whole allspice? Try it if you haven't. It will give your soup an amazing flavor

No Parmesan (or real milk)

I have never tossed allspice in my soup. Hmm. I love making split pea soup. That's my favourite. I never liked it until I started making it. I love barley too. Yummy.

Didn't have to worry about supper. Bf's in the kichen and just came to me with a large caesar salad and he's still cooking some sort of pasta. I'm so spoiled. :)

I dont know if you guys have a Trader Joes in your area but the sell a Green Chai Tea that is SOOOOO good! I have a cup before I go to bed everynight! If you have a store in your town I would try it! ;)

Oh, I miss living in northern California so much! Civilization is just beginning to make it's way to east Tennessee. I can finally get hummus in the grocery - semi-real stuff, not that alleged stuff in the box! About the only chai in the stores is that Oregon Chai, but it is way too sweet! Truly nasty stuff.

At least the recent influx of Hispanic workers has insured there are plenty of good places to get REAL Mexican food! I've even got a place that does seafood! And some very interesting people as well. And I love seeing some of the tricked out cars. The local community can be somewhat bigotted, but they just have to learn that "bad" comes from the inside, not the outside.

Yeah, my hometown/province was more than a little bigotted. This town is much better for that. Not perfect. Diversity is a part of living in BC though.

It's raining here and it's still below freezing. That's no good. I see car accidents in the near future.

Do you have a good recipe for root vegetables? Preferably roasted. I could just roast them together of course. I have rutabaga, potatoes, carrots, sweet potatoes and ... maybe that's it.

Thoughts?

Those would be good thrown into a clay pot with an onion, some butter and a couple of rosemary sprigs! You could throw a bay leaf in too.

I love rutabagas, steameds and served with just a little lemon butter. The trick to keeping them from getting bitter is to throw a little sugar in the water.

I don't know how to make lemon butter. :( But we have lemons! :) I found a turnip too. Should I through that in there?

Technically you're supposed to clarify the butter first, but I rarely do that. I just melt the butter and whisk some lemon juice in it. Butter and lemon pepper seasoning works well too.

So you turned up a turnip? You sound like me, scrounging through the pantry to see what goes into tonight's dinner.

I've got tomorrow night's dinner in the crock pot. Vegetable soup! There's no telling what will end up in there. Remember the story of Stone Soup? I've got this huge bag of frozen Thai stir fry vegies in the freezer. It's got edames and broccoli and water chestnuts and all sorts of things in it, so I'll probably throw a handful in to go with the leftover part of the cabbage head, carrots, last big can of tomatoes, leftover onion and chicken stock. I think I've got some Yukon Gold potatoes, and there's some corn frozen on the cob out in the deep freeze. Maybe I'll throw some brown rice in.
