Well, there are a few different options.

1.) Take her to a K9 allergy specialist for a consultation and allergy testing to find out what she is allergic to. This can be very expensive, so keep that in mind.

2.) Choose a food with a "novel" protein source. So, pick a high quality food that has a protein source she has never eaten before i.e. Duck & Potato or Venison etc. When you feed this, make sure she gets no other food or edible treats what so ever. Give at least 8 weeks for improvement. Sometimes, dogs are allergic to food preservatives and carb sources as well. It would be great if you could find a food where the protein source and grain source is something she has never had. In the mean time, I would make sure your current food doesn't contain wheat, corn or soy. Sometimes a simple switch to a high quality food without these ingredients gets rid of the problem.

What are you currently feeding?

well because I didn't know what the previous owner fed her, I went with performatrim for now. I will I think tomorrow go see at Petsmart if they have natural food. that would help wouldn't it?? as for a consutant,...there is no such thing here. were still trying to educate people as to actually vaccinating their pets. just today I was talking with a co-worker telling her how much I've spent on Ginger at the vet to date, she couldn't beleive it she said she had a dog that lived to 21 and she never once brought it to the vet,..no vac, no check up, not even fixed and she now has a male shih tzu and it's the same thing. It's retarded ...

Petsmart doesn't carry the good brands unfortunatley :( I just looked up what you are currently feeding and it looks like it has good ingredients except for the menadione which can potentially be toxic to dogs. You may want to consider a novel protein diet. Do you have access to Petco? You may want to try one of the novel protein diets made by Natural Balance?

I would stay away from Hills and probably the other one as well. What brands are avaiable to you? Do you have any small pet supply shops locally? They are usually the ones that sell the better quality foods. Or, you could try www.timberwolforganics.com . They have a formula called Ocean Blue that may work and their shipping is free.

That's a big misunderstanding that a lot of people have. Unfortunatley, veterinary diets are usually pretty poor quality with crappy ingredients and they are WAY overpriced. Vets recieve their nutritional training from the food companies, so they don't really ever get any true training unless they seek out information on their own. Trust me, I worked in a vet clinic for a long time. The food reps push their food and the vets get incentives to sell it. Sure, in certain situations a prescription diet is necessary, but for something like food allergy there are plently of available diets that are actually healthier.
