He's a very nice looking boy.

I agree it should only be about the dogs but there is alot of politics involved too.
And once again, Jenn, sorry, I have to disagree.

;)

I've been showing dogs for some time in the classes. Yes, there are on occasion some poor judging or some political action. Most of this happens above the class level, either in the BOB, Group, or BIS rings.

One thing I HAVE learned over the years, and that is, if you have a GOOD dog, and if that good dog is properly conditioned, groomed, and presented, you will do your share of winning.

Even in a very competitive breed where there are lots of pro-handlers. (like Rottweilers, for example)....

:D

This is one of those things you learn over the years if you keep your eyes open and your mouth shut.

Just keep in mind that sometimes not everyone who is filling your ear knows what they are talking about.

What a gorgeous stud you've got there!! Isn't it great when you go to do something just for fun and you end up winning!??! LOL, it makes the win that much better, and the story too! LOL

Now you guys will have to commit to getting more big ribbons for your showcase at home!!

What did Floyd think about all of this? Was he good nice and calm happy?

As for attire, I think the higher up you go the more "regal" the sport becomes. It's not just about having the best dog, but you have to look your best too, to show off. I think at higher levels there should be some sort of attire code... I really don't know why, but anything else, as long as we can't see anyone's special spots... I don't care! LOL :D

Good job, Floyd!!

I don't get the whole dressy thing. It's not the human who is competing, it's the dog. Why does it matter what the human looks like?

I was told it was because if you didnt care enough to dress "apropreately" then you didnt care enough to get a ribbon

He absoloutly loved it, a majority of the other dogs were in crates whilst they were waiting for their classes to start, but Floyd was in the bar with me lol. He got loads of attention from everyone there, and loved every minute of it. We never went with any intentions of taking it too seriously and just went for the fun of the day. So for him to get what he did was brilliant. Especially considering every time the judge tried to get near him he jumped all over him and licked him to death pmsl. He is still only 9 months old and as most people know Staffordshire Bull Terriers never grow up anyway lol. The main thing is he is our sons best friend, and a truly loved part of our family, so if too much was expected of him and he had to change his personality just to win a few rosettes then he would never be shown again. His personality is far too important to try and change. We had kids of all ages coming and saying hello to him including one lady with a baby, he cant get enough attention :D

Win or lose, it makes no differnce to us we take home the best dog anyway:D

That attitude is great! But you have to admit it makes it extra nice that not only is he a great pet but apparently an experienced judge this he's structurally correct!

Since my guys are mutts there's no way I could ever show them confirmation but I imagine soon at least Roxy will be doing some obedience shows, maybe Hades too, we'll see. I wish I could have that attitude! LOL, I'm soo competitive I'd be so angry with myself if we didn't do well... LOL, and then the dogs would be grumpy because we'd be constantly practicing until the next show..LOL

I'm soo proud of little Floyd! It's great that he seemed relaxed too, shows that you've socialized him very well.
