We moved over the weekend and there's fleas in the grass. The dogs have picked them up, and I obviously want to get this under control NOW. I switched them to Advantix (was going to anyway, I was seeing more ticks than I'd like with frontline) and I also picked up some capstar. But I absolutely need to treat the yard.

I'm sitting here looking Lowes and Home Depots websites looking at lawn sprays. The yard isn't that big. I could easily do it myself with the hose mounted spray bottle things.

I'm wondering.. is one brand better than another. Anyone know anything about the active ingredients? Or am I better off having someone come out (I was hoping not to have to pay for a lawn spray service if at all possible). I can spray the yard myself for under 50 bucks. I just don't know which brand is best. Adams makes a yard spray and I've seen it at my local pet supply store. Yay or nay?

Hmm.. well i'm not sure if you bathe your dog yourself but if you do I know you can get a wash that will treat fleas and ticks, that has helped my yorkie but I don't remember what the name of the product was. I'll have to go home and check.

I've already treated the dogs topically and internally. I'm looking for active ingredients to treat my yard now. :)

I thought of DE, but we live in South Florida and we're heading into the rainy season here. I really like the idea of having something be water proof in one hour. I think I'll probably get some for in the house though.

I just got some food grade DE, and I'm going to experiment with treating the dogs directly, as someone suggested. This flea problem is driving me crazy--and it's just the beginning of the season!

Keep the grass cut, and trim up any bushes that you have. Fleas hate lavender, so I'd put lavender plants around where your dog will rub up against them. Pennyroyal is also a fleabane.

I really need to get the yard treated. They'll just keep picking them up. I got some food grade DE, so I'm going to sprinkle that on them as well. But I KNOW they're coming from the yard because the darn feral cats around here (which are a whole other problem that I'll have to deal with this week).

Without the yard being treated, we'll just keep going in circles.
