I posted about 2 weeks ago about Jackson shedding and itching like crazy. I took him to the vet and they said he had fleas. He was put on Advantage, a topical flrea protction, and antibiotics incase he had an infection from his neutering surgery previous to the fleas...he stopped itching almost entirely until the past couple days he has started again!!! I called the vet and now they think he has allergies. I gave him some Childrens Benedryl so now we just have to see right...Could he have fleas again? Even with the topical? Or would it be a food allergy? Anyone know anything about canine allergies? Please help...

Well I have a Lhasaand he went through this awhile ago the fleas, then the benadryl, and I have finally figured out that he has really dry skin. Maybe your groomer or vet could recomend a good shampoo...maybe this could be a little help?...

I am going to take his shampoo and a copy of the ingredients of his food to the vet with me and see if it might be something in one of them...maybe it is the time of year, I know my skin is dry with the seasons changing and all. I am wondering if environmental allergies would affecthim to have itches...

Could be allergies. Could be fleas. Have you sprayed the area for fleas?

Flea eggs don't stick on the host like tick/lice eggs do. So they fall off and hatch in the environment and aren't affected by the advantage, which means they hatch and get right back on the dog.

They'll still die later, but it's still an irritant to the dog until they do.
