I have a 13.5 year old cat who has gotten Advantage for a looong time, it works, then we moved 2 years ago and the vet here only has Revolution, it seems to work fine. But my 7.5 month old Chihuahua....well we were giving her a 1/2 dose of Program (for up to 20lb dog) since she was 2.5lbs @ 12 weeks old, or so. Then a month ago we noticed FLEAS on her after about 2.5 weeks after her pill, which was new to us, so (after calling and gettting vets OK) we gave her a full dose for the month right then...well a week later, still tons of fleas, so we finally decided to do use drops again - "Sergeant's PreTect" for up to 15kgs..it says it kills all current fleas, etc in 2 hours and at most 2 or 3 days...well we put that on her about 5 days ago and I just got 3 fleas off her paw and she was still scratching! What should I do? It seems nothing is working on her!

Thanks for any info.

P.S. We are in a small town now, so there's only choice of Revolution IN TOWN. Otherwise we got to West. Vancouver for it.

personally the only flea prevantative i will use is frontline or K9 Advantix, the frontlinhe doesnt work very well here in ct so we use the k9advantix on the chis and cocker, its working perfectly thus far.

perhaps the fleas in your area are resistent to the stuff your using. might be time for a good ole fashioned flea dip and next month try frontline or advantix, and fleabomb the house...

if theres still fleas in the house it doesnt matter how many you get off the dog, theyll just keep comming.

I'd agree that maybe you need to fleabomb the house. Flea eggs and pupa can survive a long time in cracks in the floor or whatever.

The only thing that works for our pets is Capstar. It's a pill that you give that starts killing fleas instantly. It only works for about 24 hours but it's amazing. I give the Capstar, wash all bedding, vacuum well, etc. and don't see a single flea the rest of the season. Frontline and Advantage have not worked for my animals.

2 things to remember about fleas.

1) They have been around for over 2 million years and thus know a thing or two about survival - no little formulation is going to get rid of them in a hurry.
2) As mentioned in several other posts - they are an environmental problem, not an animal problem. You cannot hope to control them by treating your pets only.

OK - 3 things
3) Frontline, Program etc need to be given year round and not just in the summer months, and to every animal in the household, if they are going to make any meaningful dent in the total flea population in your pet's environment.

Good luck
