flea and tick meds

has anyone ever used a natural flea and tick drop? do they work? my dog doesnt have fleas or anything, but we do have alot of mosquitoes in our yard (dh is working on tearing down all the big 50 yr old bushes we have) . I hate using chemicals, I dont use any chemicals in our home so the first thing was to lean towards a natural one. she is 1 yr old and we didnt get her until November so we didnt deal with this last summer.
I did buy some Hartz 4 in 1 , I havent put it on her yet.....

Well, in any case, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don't use the Hartz 4 in 1 drops on your doggie. They are extremely toxic, and many dogs have become gravely ill, and have actually died from the use of Hartz flea products.

As far as natural flea preventatives, I know that Brewer's yeast + garlic (the garlic in SMALL amounts) tablets designed for dogs can build up a dog's immunity to fleas. Also, another herbal preventative is tea tree oil, which should NOT be used around or on cats, as it is toxic to felines.

Personally, I use Frontline Plus on my dogs and cats once monthly, and we keep fleas gone with that. It's safe, and works wonderfully.

I'd buy a product from your vet that is safer and more effective. If you google hartz you'll find more information on lawsuits and dead pets than places to buy it.

I also repeat anything stated above about Hartz and any OTC flea products really. They are toxic and very dangerous. You can also research oils and herbs you can mix together to prevent fleas. Otherwise go to a vet.

earlier my dog used to get lots of ticks and fleas particulary in the monsoons. we tried everything from bathing her regularly to applying chemicals and bathing her but nothing was ever effective. then recently someone suggested to me to try a tick collar. its very effective and since i've been using it on my dog, she hasn't got a single tick. they're effective upto about 6 months. jst put it on like a normal collar and leave it on all the time. however, make sure it never gets wet

I think it depends on where you live as to what you use, or your particular dog. Hammie had a terrible reaction to Frontline last year. now...I don't like chemicals either...but I detest the idea of flea festation worse..so this year it is wonderful using Advantix. no reactions...and no fleas, ticks, and they seem to be mosquito free anytime we're outdoors at dusk. so many people think their dog doesn't have fleas (in the height of the flea season) because you seldom see them on the dog. they jump on to feed only.......then jump off. they live in your house..your furniture...multiplying rapidly. trust me...when you DO see them on your dog...it's beyond a bad problem for your house! me.....this one chemical is a blessing. not to mention never dealing with reactions to flea bites, etc. for my puppers.
