Just curious who on here likes to fish :) I just got my license a couple weekends ago and I'm already hooked! (pardon the pun) So far I've caught 3 small-mouth bass and 1 sun fish (but my dad says they call 'em rock bass). I'm partial to using bait over lures. Those wiggly worms tend to give me better luck. What about you?

I love fishing.
Thought I've only gone twice since my papa died back in 1999, he use to take me every Sunday after church and sometimes after school.
Papa and I would use worms, they always caught the big bass and catfish. Mmm mmm good eating right there.
I've never done deep sea fishing and I'd love to go with my dad one day. :)

but sunfish and rock bass are two different fish :D

sunfish in the lakes are green blue and yellow.

rock bass are green with red eyes :D

but all fish are fun to catch.

I've fished since I was a little girl and still love it today. It is a blast

I also love fishing, though I am more of an offshore fisherman than anything else. I have no clue about any fresh water fish...except for bass :) I once caught a 6 lber which is pretty big for my area!

well they might as well be the same fish cause there are bazillions of both out there lol. I remember as a kid that was all we used to fish for because you could drop your line in the water and pull them out faster than you could bait your hook hahaha. of course we didn't keep them or anything. but you can catch some pretty big rock fish... we were fishing under a bridge one time and we were catching these huge rock bass... like bigger than an adult males hand including the fingers lol. big for rock bass. we called them mutant rock bass lol.

it's funny that this thread came up though cause we just bought Hannah a T shirt that says "some girls play with dolls... REAL girls go fishing" LOL it's cute

I love to fish. I used to all the time when I was younger. Mostly had catfish, Bass, and perch down where I lived. I loved cooking the catfish. :) Didn't go again until this summer. I caught a couple trout (one rainbow and one other one I can't remember). They were pretty small but I still felt rather accomplished. The rest in the boat of course caught nice big fish, quite a few trout and one confused humpy (pink salmon that isn't supposed to be running this year).

I suck at salmon fishing with a fly rod though!

ETA: Next summer I'm going back to Alaska and I'm going to do a LOT more fishing than this year.

rock bass are green with red eyes
Do they have a white underbelly that's squishy as well?

I was out fishing with some friends one day and, since we couldn't afford gas for my buddy's boat, we just did it off the pier. Now I've been fishing since I could walk down to my grandmother's dock, and seen a lot of odd fish, but we caught this one fish that was green and black, had red eyes, had a white underbelly (which you'd expect for counter shading), and the under belly was very squishy. Wasn't scaled or anything, felt like flesh. And there was no gradual gradiance from green to white. It was green, then it flattened out and it was stark white.

Weirdest fish I ever seen. Always wondered what that was.

Heck yeah, I love to fish. But I only like to fish with my son. We're fishin' buddies and that's the most fun of all. He's really a very skilled fisherman and I am not. LOL. But I still love it and he teaches me things about fishing. Here's a macanaw. Now, normally, these fish are thought to be very yucky....fatty, oily etc when they're from most lakes. However, out of this particular lake, the one by my house, they are very pink in color, no fat and are similar tasting to salmon. They're amazingly tasty. I even read about this in a fishing magazine about this lake. This lake is one of the most amazing fishing lakes in the country....very clean (I think designated the 2nd cleanest lake in the country) and very deep in places.

Sometimes we fish the lake or another lake nearby and sometimes the river which is just a short way from my house...the spot we go is about a mile away.

I think the most fun to catch are bass....such fighters.

Here's picture of a pretty big mackinaw. (trout) It's actually my son's fish. They get much bigger than that. But the smaller ones are actually better eating. These are what Lyric, my Dobe was practically living on when he had his liver disease. Trout was one of the main ingredients that made up his liver friendly, homemade diet. We were lucky that they are so prevelent here.

Yeah I think bass and catfish are the most fun to catch too. no matter how small they are they fight like they are ten pounds lol

wish I had a picture of the smally I caught up north but of course brian "forgot" to bring the camera that day lol. I think he just didn't want to catch it on film and have proof that I am a superior fisherman hahahaha. it was probably a 5 lb small mouth bass. caught it on a crayfish.

Love it! My husband and I go a lot during the summer - I always use a bobber and a worm though :) My husband is big into lures - we have some monster large mouth in the lake we frequent. I mostly catch bluegill, crappie, rock bass, and the occasional baby large mouth.

Nice trout!...We should make this thread a dedicated fishing/fish picture thread, where we can all post our newest catches without having to worry about grossing out the rest of the board lol.

Naw. I don't think we were fishing deep enough for a catfish anyhow.

No, that's not it.

Though on a side note, I've been to the Shedd Aquarium and it is all sorts of awesome.

No, it looked kind of like a 'normal' fish (like a brim or sunfish, or even that rock bass), but the top was dark green with black splotches, and the bottom was flat (like it was cut off or something) with a white underbelly, but it felt fleshy instead of scaley like the top part.

We just called it half albino and threw it back lol.
