So I start with buying a crate for my puppy. I put his bed in it which I just bought him. here's a pic of his crate. I put a toy in there to begin with.

Now I call him over and he brings his favorite toy "the duck" over, and gives me this look.

Then I put his duck in the crate (he's seen it for 2 whole mins) and guess what he did?

Im so proud of my puppy...i know it's not a big deal for you guys but still...just being proud.

So now what do I do?

Oh yea, and he was a "lil" anxious to get in. This is when i put the duck in. he checked it out for like 45 seconds.

Thank you. Now he'll lay down in there for like 2 mins lol. then he's checking something else out.

question...should i pet him while he's in his crate, or is that completely a "no touch" zone?

He is such a handsome, well-behaved boy! ;)

(the crate, by the way, is a no touch zone :))

Sweet !!! Having never crated, why is it a no touch zone ??? I have read that when crating a new pup, to put it beside your bed so you can sooth through the wires.

You can certainly talk to him soothingly, but you shouldn't really stick your fingers in to pet him since it's his den, and when he is in his crate it is his quiet, "alone" time.

That's what I've read.

Good boy, Tucker! :D

When you're starting out, it's important to make the crate a happy place! Never force him in. Feed him in his crate, give him yummy stuffed Kongs and chews in his crate, and leave the door open all the time so he can go in when he wants chill time. Also, increase the time he spends in their gradually. Like, first just leave him in there to eat, then increase the time to a few minutes after he's done eating, then move that to 5 minutes, etc, etc. Don't let him out when he's crying, or he learns that crying will get him what he wants. It looks like you're off to a good start! Crates are awesome, both of my guys love their crates and voluntarily go in to take naps through out the day.
