I am trying to get into competing in Obedience and Rally and was curious if anyone knows how to find local trials and more importantly, fun matches? I am in Oregon and one of my dogs is registered with the companiona partners program in AKC, but I am having a hard time finding any kind of fun matches anywhere! I've found some trials but we need baby steps before we can go to trials...

Thanks!

It can be a pain finding matches. The way I do it is by first trying to locate all Obedience clubs within a reasonably proximity. Then you've really just got to check all of their websites to see when they have matches listed. Many hold them once a month or every other month or so. They are also known as correction clinics, as well, so look for those! I will make myself a calendar in iCal so I have them all in one place.

As for finding trials, the event search on the AKC's website will help you a lot.

Good luck at matches and trials! :D

Here in the northeast, we have a publication called The Match Show Bulletin that lists all kinds of matches. I don't know if there is such a publication anywhere else, tho.

Besides the AKC site, you can find up coming trials (and AKC sanctioned matches) on the websites of show superintendants. There's different ones for different regions. One way to find them in your area is to do an event search on the AKC site. The super listed with the trial info. Contact not just training clubs, but obedience schools and kennel clubs. Someone there should be able to help you find matches. Kennel clubs usually hold a match every year, too (at least around here they do).

No idea where you are in Oregon. Some members have mad google skills. Find clubs that have had matches in past and look at their sites occasionally..

This sometimes has match listings, may or may not include everything.

I'd look at some of the "real shows". Not sure about other events, but I know with agility they somtimes have run throughs the day before the trial.

NP, glad to help :)

If you could hit even drop in obedience classes geared towards a CD it would help in ways a fun match does.

I've found rally, home versus a trial was never really a huge difference. I could use some ob classes. Tighten up heeling sure, but nothing is similar enough to group sits and downs. If you'd like to compete OB in future.

I'm having issues as I'd like a class geared towards a CD myself, and most places offer 'pet obedience'.
