Ok, thanx! Ya, next time i got to town, i will pick up another rat. The babies are only $3 and they are all used to each other because in the pet shop the all live together.

What you could do rather than supporting backyard breeding (Pet stores are backyard breeders) Is find a rat in a rescue....Even if he is older, the introduction but be a little more difficult but you would be saving a life =)

Or find a reputable breeder

Oh ok, i will see what the price is at this one place, the owner is really nice, he rescues small pets and sells them to good homes in his little pet shop. Thats the only rescue that i know of that has rats around here. Most of the pounds in this area only accept dogs and cats into their shelter.

Grats! Rats, IMO, are much much much better pets than mice. Rats actually bond with their owners, and are extremely intelligent and much more social.

And I agree, you'll need to find another male friend for your rat.

Well, ive never had a mouse so i dont know if they do that or not, but i know hamsters dont. We had a hamster and a mini hamster and they didnt care about us at all, they just wanted to escape.

Ok, everyone who knows a lot about rats, in about 15 minutes ill post a pic of his cage with him in it. What i need to know is, Will the cage be big enough for 2 full grown rats?

No, not big enough.

Rat cage calculator:
http://www.rattycorner.com/odds/calc.shtml

Put in the dimensions, and it says how many rats can fit. That is the absolute MINIMUM sizes though, so you want a cage that will fit more rats than what you plan on owning. I reccommend this site for wonderful cages:

http://www.martinscages.com/products/cages/rat/

Also, is that pine bedding? If so, you need to change it since pine (and cedar) are toxic to all small animals. Safe beddings are carefresh and aspen, also yesterday's news (A paper-based cat litter) and corncob bedding are safe. Make sure the bedding you use is also not dusty. Rats are INCREDIBLY prone to respiratory infections, I can almost guarantee you will be treating that for each of your rats at least once in their life. Dusty bedding can trigger it.

First, Congrats! Ratties are tons of fun.

Second, I agree on getting your new guy a roommate. They are very social and need companionship. We rescued two brothers together. :D

Third, that cage is indeed very small. Our boys have a mansion, so they are spoiled, but they need room enough to run around, etc..

I pretty much agree with what Kay has said. Carefresh bedding, while expensive (At least in my area) is very much worth the cost as it lasts a lot longer.

You may also want to talk to Squidbert.. she's got the 411 on the ratties! :D
