Hi everyone! I need to get a privacy fence installed pretty soon here.. w/in the next month so I've been calling around to local fence guys in the area. I'm looking for a vinyl fence most likely and I need about 168 feet of fencing to cover my area :).

I'm getting quotes of like 8500+ to install this type of a fence, and I'm a newbie home owner so I have no idea if this is me getting ripped off, or if it's the going rate. Has anyone here had a fence similar to this put in, or any tips or tricks?

Thanks!

I don't know much about it but that seems very expensive to me. That's approximately $50 a foot, which seems ridiculous.

That's about right actually. Rita took out our fence and we were getting quotes of around $11k or so. We just decided to do it ourselves at that point. Wasn't too hard. Just lots of digging, pouring of concrete, measuring, and hammering.

if youve got a big burly handy man you can hire a post diggger for a few days and buy the fence and do it yourself.

its about the right cost for vinyl installed, but do it yourself you could probably just about half it!

Wow! Well my fiancee is a big guy, but I'm not so sure if he's handy *lol* He's super meticulous and I think it would take literally a month to get the thing installed w/his track record of projects.

I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and shell out the money. My pups haven't had a securely fenced yard ever and they deserve it :)

Plus I feel like I'm living in a fish bowl here, everyone's yards are so close together it's ridiculous.. I'm seriously going to be needing some privacy!

I'm calling home depot to get a quote from them, because when I priced out the sections of fence on their site it came to like 3200 for the sections. I know that I also need a gate/posts, ect so I'm thinking it'll end up more at around 5,000 when all is said and done, but their installation may end up cheaper.

Has anyone ever used Home Depot for installation?

They are expensive. Why don't you have a nice wooden fence put up. I was told they are actually more durable than the vinyl.

Oh our fence is wooden. I thought that was assumed lol.

Didn't know there was such a thing as a vinyl fence. Wood might cost more. Not sure.

The only vinyl I've ever dealt with is in large, flat discs with little groves in them.

Yeah apparently the vinyl is the priciest kind or something. They can make a wooden one for 3,000 but I don't like the way it looks. All my neighbors have the white vinyl fencing and I love the way it looks, plus I love that it's maintenance free. What I don't love is the price, lol!

I might consider a Cedar Fence, the picture frame style if it's a lot cheaper.. like 5500 instead of 8500, but if not I'll just suck it up and pay for the pricey stuff I guess.

We have this whole landscaping project we're working on back there for the summer. We also need to get a cement area done and like 4 big bushes and a huuuuge old garden ripped out. I'm scared to even get "those" numbers, lol.

Yah we did ours out of cedar. I like it. It's a nice yellowish-orange color. Looks nice but that's part due to my mom sitting out there inspecting each board going "wait, turn it over, that's the ugly side." "it looks the same mom" "I said turn it over!" "Yes ma'am..."
