Can you feed two kinds of dog food? I have my Ridgebacks on Innova Large Breed and I am happy with it. I feed my Lab Solid Gold Wolf King. I see both as good food and very different. Can you mix these foods and give a dog both?

Absolutely, as long as the tummy is tolerant. I switch every few months between Innova Evo and regular Innova with some raw tossed in for good measure. Variety is the spice of life and is just as good for our dogs as it is for us. The only concern would be a dog that has allergies/sensitive stomach issues, then it is best to stick with what you know works.

It's not a good idea to mix different dry food brands. The food is very concentrated and formulated to deliver particular amounts of nutrients in a specific amount of food. Insterad of getting "the best of both" your dog may end up not getting enough of either food to benefit from a particular formulation.

However, there is no problem with rotating between different brands every few months - your dog doesn't have to eat the same food all the time. :)

Eek! I've been mixing Canidae with CN. Back to 100% Canidae until I decide to rotate.

I rotate between Innova EVO and Karma Organics, and sometimes do feed both in the same week. Didn't know that wasn't a good thing to do - whoops!

If you only mix food intermittently, it's not a big deal. Feeding a portion of a different food than usually one day isn't as problematic as mixing two brands and feeding the mixture long-term either.

Rotating between different foods is just the best approach to take. :)

How about feeding Solid Gold Millenium in the morning and Solid Gold Barking at the Moon at night?

That amounts to the same thing as mixing two different types of food.

I also don't quite see the point of feeding a grain-free, low-carb food like BatM and essentailly diluting its nutritional principles by feeding a food including grain at the same time...

I agree... I wouldn't use 2 types of kibble at the same time. Each offer different nutritional values... and will not give your dog complete nutrition.

I switch between formulas of the same brand (Timberwolf) every bag to switch things up. I also add things to my dogs' food to keep it interesting.
