We have two toy breed pups and we have been feeding them three times a day. They get fed at 6am, 12pm and 6pm approx. All was going well but now the one pup has not been much interested in the mid-day meal. The other pup still gobbles up her lunch but the little guy isn't interested. He picks but doesn't really eat. They have been to the vet recently and there are no health problems. Could it be he is just not interested and is cutting himself back to two feedings a day? I am just worried that he won't get enough to eat as he is growing in leaps and bounds. They are 13 weeks old and the male has almost tripled his weight since their 6 week check up and the female has doubled her weight. They are not overweight by any means but I am concerned. What should I do?????????????????????????

6-week check-up? Wowsa, that's young.

I'm glad to hear that they're growing well. If the puppy doesn't eat the food, pick it up and take it away when the others are finished. After a few days of skipping the mid-day meal, your puppy will get the point. If he is actually hungry, then he will eat. If not, he will wait until the evening meal. In that case, you should increase the amount of food in the morning or the evening.

More than likely, your toy breed (as with most toy breeds) is being picky. Herschel did that for a while and has finally outgrown it. Just be consistent and remove any uneaten food.

The pups are not 6 weeks old, they went to the vet when they were 6 weeks old as they were still with the breeder. She took them to have them checked at that age and they were weighed. They have also seen the vet at 10 weeks and are due again at 14 weeks.

We put the food down for approx. 20 minutes and whatever isn't eaten is then removed until the next feeding. He just doesn't seem interested and still only eats his regular meal at suppertime. A lot of times he doesn't finish what's in the dish at supper either. But he is growing in leaps and bounds so I guess I won't worry about it at this point. He is definately healthy.

I wouldn't worry about it, as long as he is eating something during the day, then he must feel full. Does he get a lot of treats during the day? If so, maybe cut back on those

No, he gets very few treats during the day. The treats are usually in the evening when we do a bit of training with him. He seems to go in spurts, somedays he eats everything and somedays he really isn't interested.
