I have a 11 1/2 week yorkie. At the breeders he had food available all day. I would like to get him to eat at set meal times. We just got him on Sat. and he doesn't seem to eat much, so I did add some canned Marrick? food to his kibble. He was on Eukanuba and I am changing him to Canadae. How much should he be eating? How do I get him to eat enough at a time so that he gets enough?

For a little baby like this, I would take several Tbs. dry Canidae, mix with 1 Tbs. canned Canidae puppy and a few drops of warm water. (Reccommend using Canidae products verse the Merrick canned.) Crate him to feed and leave him in there for 15 mintutes. When his 15 min. is up, take him out and take any remaining food away. He needs to understand it's not play time, he can't pick at food and wander off, and he no longer has unlimited access to it. An 11 week old Yorkie whose been free fed, will probably do best to get 3 small meals per day for the next few weeks, if your schedule allows. After a few weeks of being on a consistent feeding schedule, he should become a heartier eater. Some never have good appetites, my Min. Poodle was one who was quite finnicky. Being consistent, not switching his food or feed times and taking it away when he leaves it down, is the key. Good luck!

This is really good advice. I just wanted to add that there is no such thing as "Canidae puppy", as it is an All Life Stages food. (The same Canidae you feed right now will work throughout the life of the dog)

Definitely use warm water to soften the kibble. Most dogs seem to find their food more palatable like that, too.

Oooops, forgot to clarify that! Lol. I currently feed Canidae, ALS and raw to my Dobie pup. He does very well on this, so good luck Angelmom.

Small dogs like yorkies need to have food all day because of there size. They could easily gte low blood sugar from playing too much. I would wait a while before setting meal times.
