By doing this they don't get all the vitamins they need and this can lead to calcium deficiency plus many other deficiencies.
can you elaborate on your theory there? lol

seriously tho, while i am all in favor of feeding home prepared diets (raw or cooked), it's never a good idea to just jump into it without research, and there are plenty of good books available on the topic.

as long as you follow a few basic rules, there will be no deficiencies at all.

Some times I think dog food companies have people so brain washed it's scary. It makes me chuckle sometimes that people could seriously think an overly processed kibble could be healthier than fresh home made meals
I found it interesting reading Dr. Pitcairn (I think) it's the Dr who came from Austrilia who said that kibble was slow to come to Austrilia and he saw first hand the decline in the health of dogs by going from home prepared to kibble.

014509Bo, you are definitely right there. :)

and i think you are getting pitcairn and lonsdale mixed up - they are both great veterinarians tho.

lonsdaleis the one who wrote the book "raw meaty bones", which also goes into a lot of detail about kibble-induced dental disease and the collaborations of vets with the feed industry.
