Do you guys have any particular favorite names for particular breeds if you were to own one?

For instance when I was about to get Katalin - I wanted a pair of Kuvasz but was dissuaded into starting out with one first, I researched Hungarian names and came up with Katalin - Catherine, Kate etc in Hungarian; and Selene - a ancient lunar deity. There were just certain names for Kuvasz's that I had in mind, there are certain names for Pyrs, Akitas, Borzois as well - anyone else share my "quirk"? lol

Kuvasz -

Katalin
Artemis
Selene
Zoltan
Geza
Solt
Palatine

Pyrs -

Apollo
Icarus
Koga (Japanese for 'Silver Fang')
Nero
Danton

Borzois -

Nikolai
Vladimir
Alek
Sebastian
Pyotr
Anna
Rayne

GSD's -

Shuck (for a all black one)
Karl
Cosmos
Blaze

Caucasian Ovcharka -

Igor
Inugami ('Dog Lord' in Japanese)
Jupiter
Typhon
Hera
Demeter
Letizia

Laurelin

Border collie:
Mako
Nate
Pete (but we had a lab as a kid named Pete)

Papillon:
Leo

And I always get girl dogs and never have any girl names picked out.

I had kate picked out for a female BC, but then my stepbrother named his daughter Kate. Now I'm thinking Nate might also be too close too.

Yup! I have had a list of names for certain breeds since I was a teenager! All various sighthounds of course! They are long lists so I won't even both to post 'em! I add to them every now and then.... And always end up adopting a dog whose current name fits perfectly so I never get to use any! Lol

Male GSD: Beau
Male Rottie: Steele
Female Rottie: Onyx
Male black Lab: Berry
Male Spanish Mastiff: Toboe

So not so much a list of names...but I do have specific names that I'd name a dog of that breed/sex. LOL

I tend to like mythological/biblical names names for any breed (i.e. Enoch). But For Podenco breeds the name Cricket just *fits*

I've *always* had a list of names - registered AND call name - matched to a sex/breed that I wanted lol

Lately, I've given up on that since the names rarely get used.. but I do have a few names in the wings that I WILL use!

I do have a list of possible future dog names for any dog of mine, and some are more suited to certain breeds than others. I kind of have mine sectioned off into "Koolie names", "Toller names" and "Belgian names" as those are the only breeds I intend on and can picture myself owning at the moment. But it wasn't intentional for certain names to really go with a certain breed. It just kind of happened. It was probably dependent on which breed was heavier on my mind at the time of thinking of a particular name. And also, colour of the dog plays a roll too.

My next 'houla will be Swamp Thing with a call name of Gator =)

The best name I have ever heard for a GSD was Moscow...he was a big old longhaired fellow and it just suited him so well.

This will probably make me sound like the worlds biggest freak, but I have a mental picture of my next dog. It's a fawn LHW, and her name is Sansa. No other name will do, just Sansa.

Did I mention I only want males, so I have no idea where this female idea is coming from?

I have quite a few names picked out as well, mostly for certain breeds.

Ajax
Acantha
Lysander
Amaterasu (Ah-maht-er-aus, Ah-me for short)
Eisheth
Ishtar
Enkil
I so, so, so want to name a RR or similar girl Casanova...and call her Cass for short.
Danae
Inanna
Mithra
Luxeferre (kudos if you get this one!)
Xanthe

Basically a lot of old Mythology, literature, and such type of names. And each one has to fit exactly the time of dog I have in mind. Or else they don't fit. Lol.

Of course, I have more "normal" names on the list, too.

I met a GSD named Humboldt (which is a county near me), and I was just astounded with how much his name fit him! He was an awesome GSD (and I am NOT a fan of the breed lol)

I'm having this problem right now, too >.< I've got this AWESOME name idea for a female... except I don't want any more females!

 A dog of that breed... named Bacon... YES.
