I recently noticed a lump on my dog and immediately took him to the vet the following day. The lump was aspirated and it was determined that it was fat. The vet said that it was nothing to worry about for the time being but just keep an eye on it. Has anyone else gone through this before?

Sure have !!! As long as they were checked out , they were left alone . Of course it depends on where they are .

Ilsa's got about 5-6 of these - most are very small. They're nothing to worry about, just keep an eye on them. If they get bigger or impede movement, have them checked again.

Vets don't liek removing them because they're basically just ugly - leaving them there isn't a health risk, and it's more of a bother to put the dog under anesthesia, remove the lipoma and have to deal with recovery time than to just leave them be.

Yes, some of the dogs I've owned had them, and the vet left them alone. Unless they interfere with something internally, they can be left there.

Seems that fatty tumors come as the dog ages, nothing to worry about. I had a dog that had numerous ones and he lived to be 15 so it really doesn't bother them. Smaller dogs for some reason seem to be more prone but I've seen a collie with a large one on his shoulder.
