Well my buddy came home yesterday afternoon. The incision is soooo big & nasty looking - I fought not to cry when I first saw him. He was so happy to see me. It was a rough ride home - he wouldn't stay in the back of the truck so we were able to get him into the back seat where he normally rides and my daughter sat with him. He had alot of trouble settling and was really uncoordinated. I think alot of it had to do with having his system full of all the pain meds and the excitement of going home. In fact I wouldn't leave him home alone to bring my daughter home nor drive home with him after dropping her off so we just came home and I had her take my truck to go home.

He came in and I brought him into my room as I had a spot all fixed up nice & comfy for him. I took off his leash and removed the towel (we're wheelbarrelling him with the towel to steady him) and as I quickly turned around to set down the towel he proceeded to hop up unto my bed!:yikes: Granted it is a low bed but.......he's not supposed to be doing that. He proceeded to get himself comfortable and there he stayed until 9 this morning when he decided nature was going to overrule him laying there.

He was alot better moving around this morning, must steadier. I think it's because the meds were much lower in his system. We had to go back to the vet at noon to have the drain removed. The ride there was so much better today, my daughter didn't have to help him at all during the ride. The vet was quite surprised - she couldn't get the drain out - she said his body is already healing so she had to take him in the back, give him a shot to numb the area and remove a couple of stitches to get it out and then use a couple of staples to reclose it.

He's now curled up on my bed once again fast asleep. I think I'm going to join him & have a little nap myself!;)

Farley update (updated)

We went to the vet the next day to have the drain removed and it didn't want to cooperate. She had to take out a couple of stiches where it was stuck and then staple it closed. We then went to the vet Thurs to have the stitches removed & she decided she wanted to keep them in for a few more days. We went back this morning & she took them out.

She is so pleased with how well he's doing and how happy and "back to normal" he is. He was so wanting to play with the 2 puppies that were in the waiting room. When she came out he immediately left me to go greet the vet complete with the infamous wiggle butt of his! lol When I came home from work last night & tonight he was actually giving little jumps to greet me. He's also figured out how to get in & out of the truck by himself and has learned how to balance himself in the backseat so he can see out the window and enjoy the ride. He hasn't really gone off balance going potty the last few days at all. Still doesn't want to stay outside once his business is done but I'm sure that'll come in time.

She wants to keep him on the Metacan which is an anti-inflammatory and said probably forever considering his age but that after awhile probably reduce it to once every other day more as a preventative than anything else. He's been off the pain meds since last Thurs. and she said to hang on to the rest of them and give him 1 if he takes a hard fall. He'll also stay on the Cosevite which is a vitamin/mineral supplement. His blood count is rising slowly but surely and she said that is a good sign too.

Still on pins & needles waiting though for the biopsy results to come in. She's really hoping to have it this week. She said she'll have the girls start calling daily to bug them for the results.

I asked her when she thought it would be OK for him to be bathed & groomed - he had an appt. the week of his surgery so him & Chloe are definitely due. She said as soon as the groomer can fit him in. She's released him and will just check on him each time he comes in for grooming unless I call and feel they need to see him sooner.

It doesn't seem possible that he's come so far in just 2 wks time. He sure is a trooper. The first few days after surgery I was feeling so guilty for putting him through it but seeing the results so far.....I know you know what I mean.

I'll let you know when the biopsy results are in. Thanks for all the vibes - I have no doubt they helped loads!
