Well my buddy came home yesterday afternoon. The incision is soooo big & nasty looking - I fought not to cry when I first saw him. He was so happy to see me. It was a rough ride home - he wouldn't stay in the back of the truck so we were able to get him into the back seat where he normally rides and my daughter sat with him. He had alot of trouble settling and was really uncoordinated. I think alot of it had to do with having his system full of all the pain meds and the excitement of going home. In fact I wouldn't leave him home alone to bring my daughter home nor drive home with him after dropping her off so we just came home and I had her take my truck to go home.
He came in and I brought him into my room as I had a spot all fixed up nice & comfy for him. I took off his leash and removed the towel (we're wheelbarrelling him with the towel to steady him) and as I quickly turned around to set down the towel he proceeded to hop up unto my bed!:yikes: Granted it is a low bed but.......he's not supposed to be doing that. He proceeded to get himself comfortable and there he stayed until 9 this morning when he decided nature was going to overrule him laying there.
He was alot better moving around this morning, must steadier. I think it's because the meds were much lower in his system. We had to go back to the vet at noon to have the drain removed. The ride there was so much better today, my daughter didn't have to help him at all during the ride. The vet was quite surprised - she couldn't get the drain out - she said his body is already healing so she had to take him in the back, give him a shot to numb the area and remove a couple of stitches to get it out and then use a couple of staples to reclose it.
He's now curled up on my bed once again fast asleep. I think I'm going to join him & have a little nap myself!
