Love how one of the ten comanments in the Bible is "thou shall not judge".
This person is an extremist..I was shocked by her behavoir and views. The only thing that bothers me is that..people may view Christianity by what they just heard.. I hope not!
Kind of like the way so many view Islam because of the extremists on their side of Abraham's legacy.

No accounting for the lack of judgment in some people. Just no class at all. It is these types of self righteous fundamentalists that are the ones we need to fear and cause us to want to be armed. Sheesh.....

No offense or anything, just wondering which of the ten commandments you get that from?

It is in the Bible though:
Matthew 7:1-6

1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

These people once told me I wasn't a Christian because I was wearing a bandana on my head (i was going to my old kennel job) and only dykes do that. Mine you, I was in my car which had a cross hanging from the rearview mirror, a Jesus Fish emblem on the truck and I was wearing a cross necklace carved from agate. Kind of obvious where my religious leanings were...

:yikes: i'm sorry, but i couldn't help but laugh. do these people know how dumb they sound?! that's the most ridiculous thing ive heard!

i just hope enough people are smart enough to realize that these guys aren't an accurate example of what a Christian is! Christ would have probably called them a "brood of vipers" as he called the pharisees!

I am sorry. That was what I was referring to. My apologies... I was in a huge rush. Sorry again.

Not to derail things, but it's not just the extremists that give a bad name to the religion. It's some of the other muslims, too. I went to middle school with a kid whose parents had basically brainwashed him into thinking Christians were evil, homosexuals, etc were evil--all the stuff you get from crazy people who call themselves Christian--and worst of all, they'd brainwashed him into thinking women were worthless. He treated all the girls around him like they were worth nothing and insulted them just for being female, and his female teachers had to verbally flay him to get any respect. Another girl I know thinks it's perfectly acceptable that after she finishes school her parents are going to ship her back "home" and marry her off. Have I mentioned she's a US citizen? I don't see how this is legal, much less morally acceptable.

Maybe I have a very skewed view here, I don't know. *shrug* But my experiences with my peers have been bad.

And why is it that I haven't heard of these crazy people before? The Phelps sound like nutcases who ought to be locked up. Is it a cult? Or just people of similiar [crazy] beliefs?

Yes, I have. :( I've gotten the impression that this is the "norm," however. I know more young women who are muslims than young men, and most--if not all--of them feel that they are inferior to the opposite sex. Some just have got it worse than others. Not to say that I don't know girls who aren't muslim who think themselves inferior to the opposite sex, but there are very few of them.

And, is Nolo my new nickname? :lol-sign:

Oops . . . should have typed Nolu  Sorry about that!

The Hebrew and Christian scriptures are pretty clear that women are the inferior sex too, as well as the source of sin being brought into the world . . . seems to come down from all three religions founded on Abraham, if you think about it. Quite misogynistic.

I have noticed that in Christian scriptures. I just have not noticed it in practice, thankfully, although I'm sure there are plenty of Christians who feel this way as well. Not too sure about Hebrew scriptures, though. I haven't studied, or even seen, those at all. Renee, we seem to have hijacked the thread.. *creeps out the door quietly*

Heheh . . . it's okay, you're with me :D

And yeah, it's fairly widespread among the Christian community, especially here in the southern U.S.

*walks back in* Ooh, I'm with a VIP now? Yay!

Seriously, though... I'm technically in a "southern" state, but Northern VA doesn't count as southern anymore. I almost have a hard time believing that the Christians there believe in gender bias, as well. I've been spoiled, though. The church I go to is wonderful, and they JUST teach the bible--not any denomination. Their services are fun, promote knowledge, and really stick with you. If there are any biases here, I don't know of them. (Except the usual one against homosexuality, but you're going to get that from most religions anyhow.)

This is the land of fundamentalists still. There's some enlightenment, but it's an uphill battle. Much of the attitude is just under the surface, and it breaks out in a great deal of domestic violence.
