Faith and my mom were deployed with Pennsylvania Task Force 1 today to Hurricane Sandy. They will probably be waiting until the storm is mostly over with to search for survivors, but I don't know much about the process. Last year when they were deployed to NY after the tropical storm, they did a lot of waiting and not much searching.
I offer all my good thoughts to all of the east coast residents who are going to be affected by this hurricane, and all of the emergency response (police, firefighters, search and rescue, red cross, etc) who will be assisting the evacuees.

Faith went her whole SAR career (which started when she was 2 years old) without being deployed, and now that she's 11 1/2 she is doing the hardest work she's done in her life. I can't help but worry about her, although at the same time I am so proud of her and so impressed with these lines that she is able to work at her age.
