Hey
Looks like I am going to have to ship me and my dog from the USA to the UK..My OH looks like he is going to lose his job which means unless we can find someone to take over our work visas we have to go home... I have looked into the pet travel scheme where I am already on the move with this...

I would appreicate anyone sharing their experience of air travel with your dog, which crates would be the best to use...my dog is a lab mix, she is 6 years old...

I am worried she will be so stressed to travel the filght back home is at least 9 hours...

I flew Logan from WA to KS, and it took about 6-7 hours when it was all said and done. He was absolutely fine.

I used a Remington crate, but I know Varikennels are pretty good too. What I like about the Remington is that it's got ventilation holes not only on the sides and front, but also on the back. I got it online at Petco for $60. If I were to do it again, I'd take some cable ties to secure the two halves together more securely, but even as it was it was fine.

I don't have any other experience, so I'm of limited help in this area.

They acuallt do really well on the flights usally. Pax's flight was a total of 12 hours and he HATES to be crated due to experiances as a pup and he did excellent.

Only advice i can give is to check , double check and triple check all the admintance for the UK. They are one of the hardest countries to bring animlas back into ( even if they came from there) and one of the only that still has a mandatory 6 month kenning if its not on the spot... and I have heard they give no quarter for one mis step.

Can you tell me do they let the dogs out for a walk at any time or is it once they are in their crates thats them until we pick them back up?

Yes I have called Defra in the UK where I spoke to a very nice lady who gave me the full details of what I need to do, its at least a 7 month process so I am getting started on this...

Thanks for your replies

Continental dropped the ball with Smudge. Was only within the USA but he was in a crate for 11 hours. They don't let them out. I suggest you freeze water in the water bowl as he didn't get any and was only a puppy.
