I was just wondering about this...

On average, how much exercise do you get per day? What do you do?

Lately I've started doing a mile on the treadmill every day, at a brisk walk (3.5 mph)...I'll probably increase this once I get a bit more used to it.

I walk a couple miles with the dog first thing in the morning, and play soccer once a week. I wish I had time for more though!

I do, on average, 4 3/4-5 miles a day on the treadmill @ 3.5-3.8 mph and I use the last 4-5 minutes as a cool down set @ 3 mph.

But I plan to increase this as well since I used to do 4 1/4 miles a day at 4.4 mph with an incline of 2-4 (I think that's what I would have the incline at).
The incline screws with my lower back, though.

How are yall doing on the treadmill? How much weight have you lost, etc etc. (If you don't mind me asking.)

I NEED to get out and exercise more.

Oh ok.

I need to lose about 10 pounds by January... how should I go about doing this? I am decreasing my diet, as I ate ALOT. What else?

I am slowly but surely training for a marathon and I try and run three times a week with my dog. I also do a fitness class twice a week.

Dakotah, running is a great way of burning calories. Have a look at c25k.com - it's a 9 week program to get you running 5k by the end of it, and it's really gentle and easy for your dog too.

For me, personally, I just started my routine a little over a week ago.
So, I am not going to notice anything yet.

I should have started out slower, with less time and mph, but I used to be a treadmill nut.
And I was addicted. If I skipped a day, I felt gross and horrible.
This was over 2 years ago.

So, I started back up and now I'm addicted again.
Unfortunately, my back is such that I cannot go at the rate that I did 2 years ago, but I will eventually build myself back up to that.

If I don't get daily exercise, I feel AWFUL.

1-2 times a week I walk about 10 miles (with half hour breaks every 4-5 miles) with a couple dogs.

And then every other night my best friend and I go on about a 6-7 mile bike ride.

The mile walks at the river/park started a little over a month ago. And the bike rides started a couple weeks ago (After I finally got my bike fixed lol).

i have lost about 15 pounds now. I have a lot more to loose. I won't get into detail (But I am not just one of those girl who think they are fat and want to lose a couple pounds, my health is declining due to my weight and I NEED to lose weight).

AND I have dropped two pants sizes!! Woo Hoo!! :)

I am trying to get out more often and exercise...but work and soon to be school will effect that. I am working on my arms, so i don't end up with flabby arms. Luckily I am young, so it should "bounce right back into shape" as my mom says lol. So i have been lifting some weights every night (Starting a few days ago, so I haven't seen any improvements yet).

i walk 3 miles every day, and more if i get a chance at a brisk pace...
ive been doing this for over a year and thus far even with some positive diet changes theres just no weight loss movement...but im also having huge issues, i GAINED weight on 2 diferent diets that a dietician put me on and they cant understand it either especially since im so strict about it when im on a diet...i write everything down.

i have been told though walking realy doesnt burn calories that fast, your best upping your pace to a jog, riding a bike or doing stairs if you realy want those calories worked off (and weight dropped)

I walk 4 miles every day with the hounds at a brisk pace, I ride on average 4 horses a day and muck out between 6 and 8 stables.. I find that I don't need to do any extras.. And at the end of the day I am pretty whacked.. lol

If anyone wants to be a runner/jogger but thinks they can't do it I'm a testimony that "if I can do it, anyone can." lol

I've never been a runner in the past but was always fascinated by it. So a couple of year ago I got my treadmill and started slowly building up my stamina, I'm not one of those people blessed with good stamina so it took a while.

Now at 40 I run 4 to 5 miles a day at 6 miles per hour 5 days a week with a 3% incline. I know not to push more then that, I did at first and ended up with a horrible pulled/torn hamstring which led me to be immobile for a couple months. I use my treadmill mainly in the winter time and run outside during the summer.

I also do different ab crunches, leg lifts and push ups 3 times a week. I don't need no stinkin' gym..lol...I use my own body weight. Actually I've tried the gym but I don't do to well in that type of setting. I need flexibility to work out on my own time.

If I don't get a chance to workout I'm impossible to live with...lol...it is now my drug.

But people with lower back problems, be CAREFUL.
DO NOT just jump into running or heavy exercise.
BUILD UP.

STRETCH STRETCH STRETCH those muscles BEFORE you work out and AFTER.
The pounding of your feet hitting the ground can have a horrible impact on your lower back.

I haven't dared running yet with my back. I'm afraid. I'm very afraid.

Your right, Chewbecca, I should have mentioned that. Stretching is a must.

I go to the gym for about an hour today, plus periodic strolls with the hounds. I wish I had time for more.

I'm generally in the gym 4 - 5 times a week. If I'm pressed for time, I make sure I crank out 3 - 4 sets of half squats (full ones screw with your knees and make your butt square), and I have my own technique, combining weight bearing with basic ballet, doing stretches in between sets.

Then I make sure I get in 4 - 6 sets of bench presses, flat and incline, close and regular grip.

As long as I get those basics in, I can keep up dumping fat, slowly but surely, and I make sure I get all my core muscles involved in the squats.

The dogs normally take me for about 3 - 5 miles of walk most days as well.

The exercise ball is great for the core muscles, and Becca, I'd recommend one to you, especially.

Besides cleaning the barn and walking dogs, I'll walk on the treadmill twice a week - 3 miles (15 min./mile), on the highest incline. Also lift light free weights, practice fencing footwork and whack a target on the wall. (We have a target box that will light up randomly, then shows your reaction time in hitting it. It's fun!)
