So our 10-mo old Aust. cattle dog is housebroken for the most part. He does his business outside. However, when he gets excited, he doesn't seem to be able to control himself. When we come home from work, or when we get up in the morning, he dribbles quite a bit on the floor as he gets very very excited to see us. For the most part; we give him a 'No' command and take him outside saying 'Pee Outside' and let him know we are disappointed.

Any comments on this? Training? Should this be expected for a dog of this age? We've had the dog for only 6 days; am I just being too uptight?

Some dogs do this when they get excited. You could try and keep everything calm when you get home from work or get up in the morning. Just take the dog out immediately and calmly. You have only had him 6 days so give him time to adjust to your schedule and to know you will always be there for him. I wouldn't be giving him the no command right now, but praising like crazy when he pees outside. I'm not sure they can actually help themselves with this type of peeing.
give him time ..his surroundings are new....It takes time for them to adjust

I agree with champagne, telling your pup no or showing disapointment will not help, this peeing is involuntary.Your pup should outgrow this.

Requires training...

It is a high time to give training for your dog, not now at least after setting down. Please do follow the easy steps of basic training by yourself or contact any training school near-by for complete training.

Peeing out of excitement or submissive peeing is nothing a young dog has control over. I also agree with champagne, telling him "no" and "showing disappointment" isn't the way to go. It just creatres more anxiety and pressure for the dog.

It's best ignored as far as training goes, direct the dog's attention to something else he can do and be upbeat about it. Say "let's go, let's go, let's go" in a happy tone and take him outside to relieve himself. Give a treat after he's finished doing his business.

Also, make sure you aren't expecting him to "hold it" for too long, he might be dribbling not only out of excitement but a real need to "go". See if a schedule change that allows for more potty breaks helps preventing it.

Thanks guys! He has a doggie door; uses it all the time; so he has plenty of opportunity to relieve himself. When he does go on his own; he goes on a post we put out in the yard for him. He's great with basic training; come here; sit; his name, etc so other than this accident problem we have no complaints. We'll keep working on it and I might check out vitamin B. Thanks!!

I'm definately going to try the B' the misses says you can get powered vitamin stuff to put in food so I may get that today at lunch. This morning I'd pet him; he'd start to pee, I'd stop and he'd stop. I'd pet again, and he started again. This went on like 12 times.
