Excessive licking.....

So Duke has developed into an excessive licker. He licks everything. He will lick people, shoes, his bed, my bed, carpet, furniture anything and everything. If I tell him enough as this can become extreamly annoying he will just lick something else but be 10 times more focused than he was before. He has been doing this for a while but it just seems to be becoming worse over the weeks. Is there something wrong with him? Why does he do this any ideas? I read somewhere that some dogs can have OCD, could this be it? He will chase his tail every now and then but I stop that right away because I also read that thats not good for them to do. Any input would be wonderful.

This is a quote from a site that a friend and I were looking at to figure out how to stop her GSD from licking himself and causing Granuloma.

It is thought that the act of licking causes the release of endorphins (chemical substances which provide a sense of well-being) in the dog's brain. The dog soon learns that licking brings about this pleasant feeling, and keeps on licking. In other situations, there may be an underlying cause for the licking including allergies, skin mites, fungal infections, arthritis, trauma, foreign bodies, tumors, and neurological disease. There can also be psychological components, such as boredom, stress, and separation anxiety. It is important to accurately determine the cause of the licking, in order to treat effectively.

Obviously some of that doesn't apply to you because your dog isn't licking until there are sores on himself, but perhaps he is "releasing endorphins" or something.
I have seen a bitter apple spray suggested, but I don't know how you could spray everything in your house with it.........LOL,
