I HATE my neighbors and their dog. Okay, maybe not their dog so much, but anywho.

My neighbors have an extremely agressive Golden. I don't know the correct terms (DA, whatever, lol) but oy. They keep their dog outside all the time (even in our freaking -40 to -60 degree winter weather) and it's so agressive. It got absolutely no socialization as a pup. It went from the breeder, into their backyard. I never see it getting played with, nothing.

It barks, at EVERYTHING. I'm not even joking. I think there's only like 10 minute periods a day when its not barking. It growls and snaps at EVERYTHING. My dog can't even go to the bathroom in her run without the next door dog growling and snapping at her through the fence.

When she was younger and barking and growling a lot, I thought something might have been wrong. So I climed onto the gate and looked in on her and I was talking with her. She sat and wagged her tail and looked all happy and then out of nowhere just snapped and lunged at me. I've said "eff it" ever since then.

And then the neighbors have the all fired gull to tell me and my mom that Alexa is dangerous just because she's a Rottie cross. Are you freaking kidding me? Lex is even gentle with our new kitten. She'd never hurt anyone. We were socializing her with people and the cats since she was 5 weeks old. She loves everyone and everything. Sure her obedience isn't great yet, and she does like to jump and pull on a leash but honestly? In the 2 years they've had their dog, I've seen them walk it twice.

AHHH.

That breaks my heart . NO Golden should be an outside dog only . They are a people dog . I wish that they had never become popular and thus ruined . Any lurkers here, please go to a Golden breeder ONLY through your State's breed club if you are looking for a puppy . With a Golden if you go through the HS , find out why it was turned in . Golden Rescue screens the dogs and corrects issues before rehoming . If in Petfinder of Craigs List ...learn as much as you can .

Oh gosh ... breaks my heart too! The behavior described by the OP is not at all a normal temperament for a Golden. If people are going to leave a dog outside 24/7 and ignore it then WHY do they even bother getting a dog at all ...much less a breed that is normally so very people-oriented?

OK ... now that is clearly abuse. There are some nothern breeds that can possibly handle extreme temperatures like that ... but most dogs cannot, and NO dog should be left outside 24/7 and ignored.

If in the same situation ... back when the dog was younger and she wagged her tail when you tried to talk to her, but then suddenly snapped ... seriously no offense intended but I would not have just "said 'eff it' ever since" ... especially with those neighbors always leaving the dog outside in such extreme weather.

PLEASE turn these abusers in to Animal Control ... that dog so very much needs to be taken out of that abusive home!

Oh, no offence taken, don't worry. I know I shoudn't have just given up like that but I just got pissed off because my dog was getting pissed off cuz she coudln't even take a crap without this dog bugging her, lol.

And like, it's not agressive towards the family, or the kids. Just to everyone else. One day when the kids were out playing in the pool the dog came up and tried to play and the parents just told it to go away. Like what is the point of having a dog if you're just going to ignore it.

Yet it got parvo and they were freaking out because she might die and spend over a grand nursing her back to health only to put her in the yard again and ignore her.

I'd love to take her out for a walk and play with her and stuff, as long as she's not going to freak out on me. But considering what they said about my dog, there's probably no way they'll let a "dangerous rottweiler owner" take their precious harmless golden out for play time. Grr.

I would turn them into animal control but I can guarantee you that they wouldn't do anything. As long as the dog has food, water, its shots and a city license that's pretty much all they care about. If it acts aggressive they'll say "oh its just a guard dog" and think nothing of it.

Don't you just love my little over sized hick town? /sarcasm

my neighbors are similar. Their dogs aren't outdoor only dogs, but they do leave their front door open so the dogs can go in and out all day. Normally, that would be fine, but their dogs are rather dog aggressive and territorial of the yard. Particularly the female.

After about a month of being startled by their dogs slamming the fence while he was puttering around the yard, Legend began barking back. Highly annoying, as if they bark at each other I ALWAYS have to take my dogs in. Their owner will come out, lightly scold them, and then walk away, leaving the dogs at the fence. They also screech at passing walkers, people walking their dogs, and anyone who happens to be out in their own driveways.

Normally I'd just take Legend out on leash, but he has cognitive dysfunction and likes his normal habits..and that does not involve going in front of me.

As a note, if it's only the male out, they each hang out in their respective yards.

:( That's horrible. I'd definitely turn them in as well. The dog deserves to have a second chance with a good family, and it's not at all fair to you for having to live next to such ignorance.

Hope you find a way to report them so the poor dog will have a chance to have a good home.
