Can someone tell me more about this breed? We have one whom I met at daycare today and I'd never heard of them before. I've seen the official website, but it doesn't appear that they are recognized by any clubs here in the US.

I've met some here, there's a kennel that breeds them in my city. My sister is thinking of one in the future.

They supposedly have no prey drive whatsoever, so they look like a northern breed, but don't really act as one. And they don't bark, apparently.

I've read that they can perform as sled dogs, but I've also read that they shouldn't be subjected to that sort of 'work.' I think they were bred strictly to be pets, to be family or companion dogs.

I don't really see the advantages of them over a Keeshond, and they can look kinda similar. I'd rather get a Kees... :)

well the color range is bigger than Kees so there's that. I researched them pretty thoroughly and I think what swayed me was just the size...I wanted something bigger. Interestingly they are acceped with UKC....BUT under the name EURASIAN...not EURASIER. The AKC has them in the FSS under Eurasier.

We had a client at one of the vets I worked at that had two - very nice dogs. This was back in the late 1990s. The lady got one, loved it so much she got another from the same breeder. Very stable temperaments and very healthy.

I went to a Eurasier club sanction match last year for Smudge. I don't think I actually saw one though..
and the club was cheap and didn't offer ribbons when every other conformation fun match here seems to.. so I wrote them off, lol.

Shoot. This is MafiaPrincess @ Dekka's house. I forgot to sign her out.

My aunt and uncle have been on a waiting list with a local breeder for a year, they are getting their puppy late this year. The Eurasier is essentailly a companion breed, bred for temperament in the 1960s. It's got chow, wolfspitz, and german shepherd blood.

The Eurasier actually has Chow Chow, Wolfspitz and Samoyed in it's blood.
