My wife is running an etsy.com shop (it's a place where crafters can sell their handmade stuff), and it's doing pretty well. I even added a couple of things in there - I've been making these necklaces using old scrabble letter tiles. Check these out:

Anybody else here sell stuff on Etsy? There are actually quite a few people there making dog-related stuff (collars, leashes, clothes, etc)...

Wow! Those are so cool. My mom wants to order one with an S scrabble tile on the back, and the music notes on the front, can you do that?

Yes, I can do both of those. The S and C letters aren't too terribly uncommon, so I'm almost positive I have them sitting in my stash. The best way to order them is to sign up as a member on the etsy.com website, and go to our shop at those links, and click on "contact SoCalledMommy" on the side to email us with exactly what you want. Then I can put up a listing in the shop just for you and you can buy it, and then it will be shipped to you within a day or two of you purchasing it. You can pay by paypal or by any major credit card on etsy.com.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Keep in mind that I can probably do just about any image you want on these, too - not just limited to what you see already listed. It's all just a question of finding an appropriate source image. So if anyone has special requests, let me know, and I'll see what we can arrange!

Actual pictures of your dog would be very, very tough - I don't think I can do it. What kind of dog do you have? I may be able to find a simple line-drawing of your type of dog (if it's a common purebred, of course) that could work. But the whole process is based on high-contrast simple black and white images (I tried color a few times, and while it transfers okay to the wood, the colors look horrible since they all come out mixed with the brown wood).

Ahh, but I have another idea about that! If you have an actual small photograph you'd like on there, I just realized that there is another method my wife has been using to put that on the scrabble tile. It will cover the wood - you won't be able to see the wood grain at all, but the picture will be on there, and covered in a high-gloss acrylic protective resin. Is your picture a digital one? If so, that makes it even easier, because you could just email it to us and we can process it.

Hey,

Thanks for your quick reply:) Yup, I don't it would work so well, because of the size and also, she is a pretty dark colored dog, with crazy markings..not sure how that would turn out.

Ahh I see what you are saying, that sounds pretty neat! :) If I use the picture, it would be digital:)

Thanks!

Yeah, with a digital one, there's a really good chance we could do it. We'd just shrink the picture down small enough to fit on there, and adhere it to the tile, and seal it over to protect it long-term, and attach the bail and necklace cord or ribbon on it that way. She has done lots of them that way with more abstract images, and she says a picture would be no problem.

So, for the rest of you, having a picture of your dog on a pendant is absolutely doable!

They would look like these pictures:

http://www.thing-a-day.com/2008/02/21/day-21-necklaces/

Except instead of random pictures of flowers and such, it would be your dog. And the cord could be a ribbon like you see here, or it could be a cotton black cord, or a natural hemp cord.

Edited - actually, I think the ones with your dog's picture can't be done on the cotton cord or the hemp - I think they have to be on the ribbon, like in the pictures linked in this post. Just so you know. The wood transfer ones can be in cotton or hemp, though.

Just sign up with Etsy and click Contact SoCalledMommy on the right side there, and we'll take it from there, whoever wants one. Prices are $6 each, plus $1.50 shipping. (75 cents shipping for each additional necklace...)
