So Kyrie has really started to gobble up her food and she's eating a little too fast. I really need to stop the habbit now because of bloat.

Any advice?

I can't put a little in or she's not interested :/

You can put a rock or something in the bowl to take up a lot of space, so that she has to dig around the object to get all the food out. That helps when they tend to take big mouthfulls of food at one time.

You can also feed with food dispensers - there are many types of toys that are hollow with a small hole, so you can put the whole meal in the toy and your dog will have to knock around the toy to get all the food out. I LOVE these toys, especially for puppies! You can also use empty plastic bottles (gatoraide and juice bottles work best, they're a little sturdier than, say, water bottles), just put the food in the bottle and give the whole thing to your dog.

Try adding water, I suggest adding enough to make the food "float". Yoiu can also add a rock or tennis ball to the bowl as was already suggested.

One other thing is to spread the food out onto a cookie sheet so that she can't get large mouthfuls at once.

I've also heard that a couple of chain links (6 or 8 or so, depending on the size of the bowl) can help to make the food a little harder to inhale. What about hand feeding her, and getting her to run through some obedience commands before giving her a few kibbles or a small handful??

we used rocks...big ones.
Cleo picks at her food like she's using chop sticks so not really a problem now...but it's been so with past dogs.

I always put water in. Nanook throws her food up if it doesn't have something wet in it. You can also get toys that slowly distribute food. I have one from JW thanks to doc and it amuses them.

Yes, i agree with lizzybeth727 about the rocks....Tater was eating way to fast so my BF picked up about 5 medium sized rocks and put them in his food bowl.....He still is eating a little faster then we would like, but the rocks helped out alot. Good Luck! :)

you could start feeding her by hand and giving her small portions or give her none.
you could also try one of those feeding bowls that lets out certain amounts each day.

There are some really cool bowls out now called things like "Break-Fast" that have bumps and stuff in them, intended to help a dog slow down. Pretty much the same as putting rocks in, but you're not putting something lose into the bowl - it's all one piece.

I want one for Auggie, but he doesn't eat too fast. I just want one because they're cool. =P

I was going to buy one, I saw it a week ago. But I wanted to ask for other alternatives first because TBH I don't like the look and I LOVE her food dish. I'll try putting a ball or two in it, or maybe her Kong and see if it helps. If not I'll go buy it.

Thanks for the advice guys :)

Grammy- Nope, I feed kibble.

Fozzie used to gobble up his kibble when he was little... like, seriously inhale. So whenever I fed kibble I would give him a command (sit, down, stand, etc) and drop a few pieces in his bowl each time. If you can't supervise, I would second the suggestion of putting large toys in her bowl, or filling up a treat ball. I like Buster Cubes the best, because they only release a few kibbles at a time.
