Taylor, now 7 1/2 months old Beagle/Poodle, has learned to jump off the bed. With this achievement also came multiple accidents. He often wakes up early in the morning (anywhere between 4-6) and relieves himself by the door and comes back to bed. How do I stop him from doing this? Crating is not an option since he already spends a lot of time in his crate during the day. For days when he doesn't wake up, he can hold from 11pm-8am. I am also concerned that he cannot hold more than 2-3 hours during his waking hours at age 7 months.
Also, I work full-time and recently decided to go back to school part-time. That means Taylor spends more time in his crate in the evening. I want to use a baby gate to give him more room to move around, but he has been barking more and more lately in the evening (even in his crate). I think he's fine in his crate during my work-hours. After receiving a lovely note (sarcasm) from a neighbor, I ran out and bought a collar that remits sharp beep when he barks. What is your opinion on this? Success rate? What other options do I have to teach him to be quiet when I'm not home?
Thank you.
