Pompadour was scratching a lot his ears, we took him to the vet and he has ear mites :(

The vet cleaned his ears and he gave this medications:

Pfizer Revolution (selamectina)

otivet (gentamicin, sulfate)

virbac (antiseptic)

bayer equilibrium pills , for the scratching.

So the Pfizer Revolution is every 15 days, and the other ones are daily.

I hope he gets well soon.

Revolution? That's a heart worm treatment regime. Granted it doesn't work that well in dogs, but still, I wouldn't think you'd want to give it every 15 days. Hell, I wouldn't want to give it at all. Can't even speak for its efficacy with ear mites.

Edit: Huh, go figure. Quick trip around Google and evidently Selamectin does indeed kill ear mites.

Learn something new every day.

Selamectin does indeed take care of ear mites.

But you could have done it the easy way - one application of Acarexx and it's done with. Occasionally a second dose is needed a week or two later, but generally, one does the job. Garfield/Buddha/whatever his name is now (my parents most recent cat) had ear mites when we found him, and the Acarexx did a wonderful job with one dose. I've seen it work well countless times.

I don't know the name of the medication but one of our dogs got ear mites at a show and the Vet used the one dose in her ears. Two weeks later no mites to be seen but she went ahead and did another dose just in case there some deep down.

Update! he is a lot better :)

The ears are better and he dosen't scratch that mush.

He still needs his medications, he has a date to the vet to see his progress and to and another Pfizer Revolution.

we use milbemite, but same thing. i don't know how any vet can make it through kitten season without it! (it's off label use in dogs, but i don't think we've ever had anybody decline and i don't think it's ever not worked.)
