My cats have eaten Eagle Pack for years. They have done very well on it and have all lived long lives. It is considered good food by any experienced dog person I have ever known. Some on the board prefer the Holistic versions of it though and I'm sure they will tell you why if you ask. I feed my dog a mixture of Eagle Pack and Natural Balance, but she prefers the Natural Balance. Just goes to show you that one size never fits all! Maybe we could trade open bags. Haha.

Brattina, could you say more about why so many people prefer Eagle Holistic. I have read it on a number of sites as well.

I always find phrases like " Holistic" just some marketing nonsence. What does it really mean. They claim that every ingredient in their food is carefully chosen.... yada yada, but I bet every food manufacturer could say that....It's probably good food, but it probably would be just as good without the "holistic" printed on the bag ;)

I prefer the holistic line from Eagle Pack because it doesn't contain corn. Although Eagle Pack includes high quality corn in their premium line, I chose not to feed it. Some dogs do well on it though. I am very happy with Eagle Pack. My dogs are doing great on it and I like the research the company puts into their foods, not to mention their great customer service. :)

Eagle Pack Holistic (in the fuchsia bag) is one of the foods that I recommend most because of the ingredients as well as the palatability. I've not met a dog yet who doesn't like it....even the pikier eaters like my Chihuahua clients (and my own Chi's;) ) really love it!:)

Your right, Bobsk8, Holistic could very well me a marketing gimmick. (though, I doubt it in this case). But it wouldn't matter to me whats printed on the bag - as I chose the Holistic variety because of the ingredients. Not every dog food can say that
Just like showpug mentioned, I don't like feeding the corn...

The one in the fuchia pag is the Senior Care Holistic Select Formula. I like that one because of it's higher protein content, but it's fat content is a little low for my liking and I worry about coat quality when a diet lacks in fat. I am currently feeding the Chicken Holistic Select in the Gold Bag. My dogs love it and their poop looks better than it ever has on any other food.

Are you sure that Blueberries and Sardines go well together? ;)

Sorry, couldn't resist asking that !!!!!:lol-sign: That does look like a good food, however....

I think that my fuchsia may be your pink or purple (I may be a bit color blind);) . The one that I'm talking about is the adult forumla (Holistic Natural)
http://www.eaglepack.com/Pages/SP_Natural.html

I know that it still has corn in it but my dogs do so well on it as do so many of my clients dogs. I've thought of changing to one without corn but I'm a little affraid with things going so well the way they are.

I've had great results with Canidae. We switched to Innova Adult for one bag and our dog's coat suffered (dried, lost its glossiness) despite salmon oil supplementation.

Eagle Pack recently split their lines into "Holistic" and "Super Premium" because some people just don't like seeing certain ingredient sin "holistic" foods.

The holistic line no longer contains corn and barley for example, and some other minor things have changed as well.

Both lines are of excellent quality, and the choice really only depends on whether you object to certain ingredients or not. In this case it really doesn't have anything to do with a "marketing gimmick" but instead simply an appropriate response to consumer demands.

When I orginally got Tank they said he was eating Pedigree so not knowing any better I kept him on it. Then I learned better and switched to Innova large breed and it was a night and day difference in how his coat looked, it was amazing how much better it was with good food. The store I was getting the Innova from ticked me off so I went to a different place and they carried the Eagle Pack line so I changed him to the Eagle Pack Hollistic Anchovy, Sardine, & Salmon. I think his coat and fur looked even better after a while on the Eagle Pack. A month ago I was out getting some stuff at Petco and picked up a bag of Natural Balence and his coat has dulled and he doesnt really like it as well. The Grizzly Salmon oil I add to his food would coat the Natural Balence as well also and after eating it he would get a drink and crumbs would wash out of his mouth in the bowl. We just started Natures Variety frozen so I waiting to see how well he does on it.

I have been feeding the Nature's Variety Frozen along with Eagle Pack and my dogs are doing fabulous on it. The Nature's Variety is a really nice option, I hope your boy does well on it too.

I also have been doing the Nature's Variety Raw medallions once a day, and leaving Eagle Pack Small/medium breed out (I have small chi's who need to eat often) anyway, they LOVE the Eagle Pack and my picky boy has been eating a ton of it, which makes me very happy. His stools have been perfect to.

We use use the Nature's Variety medallions one a day as well! In the morning they have Timberwolf Organics.

I've never tried Eagle Pack, but I've heard that a lot of people are happy with it and they have great customer service :D
