It's been awhile since I've fed kibble but due to lack of freezer space for now we're back to dry food.

Quick question though, is there a reason to or not to add water to the kibble? I feel like this is a stupid question, but like I said, I've been out of the dry food world for years.

I always feel like when I would happen to give the dogs dry food they would drink a ton more that day so, figured I would just ask!

I've heard adding water makes them less likely to chew or some kind of food buildup issue..I've also heard it makes them eat fast in general

upside of water is that it helps hydrate (for dogs who don't drink enough), most dogs are more likely to eat it wet than dry

I personally think it doesn't matter lol

although wet kibble food does spoil if you have the kind of picky eater who is going to leave it around

If I wetted down food here mine would go on a hunger strike. I just feed dry and have a big water bowl.

I actually float food to slow Pepper and Georgie both down. Payton I floated to slow him down too because I was initially just floating Auggie's to up his water intake, and P was finishing first and trying to steal Auggie's food. =P

Abrams just gets dry. All of my prior dogs did before hand, too. No issues.

I soak Cynder's food before hand until the kibble has absorbed all of the moisture and they're soggy, but she is special needs.

I add water because I worry about hydration. We live in a hot, dry climate, though.

Since Elsie gets an egg on hers the water helps get the eggy goodness all over everything, too.

I feed dry (and have a bucket of water available), mostly because Murph and Riley won't touch kibble that's wet. Riley also won't touch his kibble if there's anything on it, like canned food, leftover meat from dinner, gravy... he likes everything kept separate. I really need to find a dog dish with compartments. Never had any problems with feeding dry food, the amount of water they drink has more to do with how hot it is and how much they run around.

I feed raw, but when Mimi was still eating kibble I put enough water in it so she wouldn't gulp it and choke.. or breath her food. lol

I always add water to my dogs' meals, regardless of raw or kibble. It helps the Dobermans not to choke on their kibble and keeps them from drinking immediately after and throwing it all up, plus it's an easy way to ensure they are being hydrated. My dogs don't drink enough on their own all the time. Ripley and Keira especially only drink like twice a day sometimes on their own.

I always add water to Squash's meals regardless of what it is. I started because he's terrible about drinking enough water on water breaks while joring, and now it's just a habit.

Neither Maisy or Pip will eat their food with water added, and she's good about drinking water on breaks anyway so I don't worry about her.

I started when Byron used to eat so fast he would puke. Slowed him down and now always do it.

I wet kibble only when I accidentally dump his meal in the water bowl.
Haha this is totally me! Once in awhile I'll slip and dump the contents of the food bowl into the water...and then skim it out into the other bowl. I don't do it on purpose. I've actually never thought about adding water to his food. :-/

I float most of the time. Occasionally I will give a morning meal without floating if I'm in a hurry. Josh feeds sometimes and I know he doesn't float at all.

I also (9 times out of 10) will add wet food in the evening. And Harlow's joint supplement. Yeah, they like evening feeds. :p

With the actual kibble, they get it dry. I feed them a couple Stella And Chewy freezedried patties though, and with those I add warm water to re-hydrate them.

I've only ever fed dry kibble to all of the dogs I've owned. I think its better for their teeth to crunch it up and also makes them eat slower. And drinking plenty of water is good for them too.
