I for one think it's horribly wrong to pierce a dog's ears :yikes:

Check this out:

http://lovemychihuahua.proboards23.com/index.cgi?board=pictures&action=display&thread=1171072925

This lady is also obviously lying that her dog weighs 15oz. There is no way that dog weighs so little:confused:

My tiny 3.5lb Rylie only weighed 21oz at 10 weeks old, and looked WAY smaller than this dog.

I am so sick of people who lie about their dog's weight to sound "cool." I don't understand how it's trendy to have the smallest dog possible.

When are people going to learn...dogs are not fashion accessories! And, why in the world are people on that board seemingly beaming about that?!

I'm not sure... it's really disgusting though.

I just found my login for that board... I joined a while back and lost my information. I'm going to make a post in her thread.

I feel really sorry for a lot of the toy breeds and especially chis! I just can't get over how people don't realize they they are a living, feeling being and not barbies. Ugh, it's makes me ill...

Agreed. Not only are they not fashion accessories but they are not people either. It annoys the heck out of my when people try to humanize their pets--ear piercing is just one step closer. Why don't we have a vomiting icon?

I replied to her post.

People like this just really make owners of chihuahuas and other toy breeds look so bad.

I've had so many people stop me outside on our walks and say: "WOW! Your chihuahuas actually walk?!"

Yes, they are dogs...

i have to admit i'm also shocked when i see people make thier chis walk. i mean when i go to petsmart it's like a bunch of toy dog owners holding onto their dogs bragging about all the braclets and clothes they bought for their dog... yeah i know i also am kinda bitter that i can't find ANY shirts or cute things that fit yoshi because she weights over 20 lbs :/ but still... i haven't seen too many chi's in my short life. most people that i hang out with have med/large dogs. but the couple i saw did walk and were expected to walk.

i believe yoshi's incredibly spoiled. but she has the freedom to move whe she wants. and the biggest fashion accessory that she has is abandana or her collar...

sry bout the rant. just it annoys me a lot when people refuse to let their dogs be dogs and then look horrified when i'm like 'yeah yesterday yoshi found something dead and rolled it, it took forever to give her her bath' *ok bad example* but still..

i am glad that i am seeing a couple people lately like once or twice in petsmart who have small dogs who they let walk around instead of being carried everywhere.

Yeah, my chis always walk... they have 4 legs and are fully capable of it ;)

I've heard that Westies are becoming the new "in" breed at the moment... bad for them, but good for the chis ;)

Personally, I see nothing wrong with it at all. People tattoo their dogs for identification and fashion, why not piercing their ears? It can be used for identification as well (ear tags, which I have seen before as well).

It's alot more common than you think. Some countries do this as part of their culture.

Do you really think that Baby is comfortable in earrings? Pain and infection are not something that I would ever want to inflict on my dogs
It's alot like the human ear, if you take care of it, it'll be fine.

The dog seems fine with it. Everyone of those pics she looks like a happy, healthy dog.

Doesn't look like she's in a big hurry to get those earrings out, either!

That's so awful.. Poor dog.

I would think that would be bordering on animal cruelty to be honest.

Just read the above post-sure she is fine with them now but she could easily scratch her ear and rip the things out. I think it's ridiculous and cruel.

Not something I would do to any of my dog's, but whatever. I personally think they would have looked better higher up, now they just look like shiny ticks.

It looks gastly! That dog is no where near 15oz either! I can't stand people who give toy dogs a bad name. My toy pom is the roughest toughest little girl you will find. She loves to be manhandeled, roughed up and leap all over the place. The only time she does not walk is when I am in a place that does not allow dogs or I am in a hurry and her short legs don't keep up!

I am horrified by the ear piercing!!!! I met someone a few years ago that had "real diamonds" in their rottweilers ears.

The dog was later killed by a car.

They should have spent the time and money protecting the dog instead of piercing it's ears.

Also, it seems to me as much as dogs scratch thier heads and ears they could pull those and rip their little ears.

I don't think it's even a least bit attractive and I would never do that to my dogs.

Not attractive in the least. I loathe the average toy owner that gives us all that same stereotype. Toys are just as much dogs as any other breed. They can walk. They require attention. They require exercise. They require training. They still do all the disgusting doggy things that other breeds do. They are not little baby dolls to play with. They are not fashion accesories or decorations for your house.

I do pick up my dogs when we take them out on occasion- all of them, shelties included. Just whenever I see a dog that looks out of control, I don't want to risk it. I also have sweaters for the papillon because they get cold easily, but they hardly ever wear them- just out in the snow. I also carry the paps in one arm around the house on occasion while I'm doing chores. xD

I would be afraid of my dog ripping out the earrings or chocking on one of those little bracelets...

One question.... did she pierce them herself?

I wouldn't pierce my dog's ears, ever. Not just becaue it would hurt them during and after the initial process, but because a dog's ears are extremely mobile and eventually those earrings will wear a bigger and bigger hole in her ears from all that motion. And that's if she doesn't scratch them out! Oh, but wait . . . She's not a dog, so she'd never do that.

These extra-tiny dogs belong in special homes that can competently care for them, not in the hands of some random person who just wants a fashion accessory. But no matter, because 6lb Ripley looks smaller than that dog.

I wouldn't do it, but that's just my own thoughts. Hammie has been known to wear a Tshirt now and then....but he feels stupid, so I'm not supposed to tell you that. :) :)
