What do you think?

Do owners pick the dogs they relate to?

Or do dogs adopt and become just like their owners?

People constantly say how Im just like my dog and my dog is just like me...

Made me wonder.

I think *Both*
Dog owners should pick breeds that suit there lifestyle, and sometimes without noticing pick dogs that are just like them. But at the same time I've seen dogs that alter there personalities somewhat to fit in the pack.
I'm dog sitting my teacher's Cocker Poodle mix, and I swear to you, this dog is JUST like my teacher. It's really wierd, and kind of creepy for him to be in my house because he has weird quirks like her.
EVERYONE tells me that Maddie is just like me, and I see it as well. Aren't kids a lot like there parents, even if they don't want to admit it?? :p

Im not sure either. Pixie and I are alot alike we're both mellow but can be hyper at times. We are also both needy lol and love the spot light (but only when its in a good light) if its embarrissing we both slink away. I would'nt say we did this to each other because I know I was like this before I got her. I would say though in the end im just like my dog :).

Oh, its both. Owners alter their lifestyle to have their dogs, and dogs do the same. I think that I really relate to Sam, she's the oldest. It comes with age, I guess.

I think we end up being more like our pets. When you have more than one person living in the house and the dog acts more like one certain person. Like Princess and my husband are so alike. Both are very social, friendly, and big mess makers. Me and Gracie are laid back, we tend to have to need to get to know a person before feeling relaxed around them...the list goes on. I think we are more like our pets. Maybe thats what draws us to that dog.

I think it's dogs adapting to us especially if you obtain the dog as a puppy. Dogs look to us for guidance on how to react to diferent situations and such and mimic our behaviour because they think we're right since we're Alpha in their eyes (poor sods eh? LOL). Like I'm a social-butterfly, i LOVE being with people, I'm hyper, a little crazy...ok a lot crazy, always looking on the bright side of things, enjoy making people laugh or at least smile, I'm the one that when I walk in the room the whole place brightens up and i'm constantly smiling and in a good mood, consequently OC's the same way. We are total identicals in personality

I had a thread similar to this.

I think they adapt and become like you but you pick the dog that suits you and your lifestyle, so of course you and your dog are really going to have a lot of similarities.

I pick the dog/breed that I think suits me the best.. Not necessarily because they're a lot like me, but because they're compatible with me. (A bunch of dogs just like me would mean a bunch of sighthound/terrier/collie mixes. LOL.)

Ripley is me in canine form. Even down to health problems! We're exactly alike; my mother always says how I, in raising Ripley, get a taste of what it was like to raise me.

Dakota has some of my traits, I don't know if he picked them up from me or if he just happens to be a bit like me. His personality is a little goofier than mine, but he and I are very compatible.

Wishbone ( my Jack Russell Terrier) and I are alike in many ways. We both are curious, intelligent, stubborn, and independant.

We both enjoy taking naps during the day but also can be playful and hyper, too.

I think both the owner and the dog somewhat conform to each others personality. I know I changed since I got Peanut, and her attitude has changed considerably since shes been around me this past year.
