I am a breeder of Cockers, Chihuahua's and doxies. I had a gentleman call me today to see if I was interested in more breeding stock of yorkies, shih-tzu's, lhasa's and peek's. He had 26-28 breeding dogs ranging from 11 weeks to 4 yrs old. He wanted $9000 for all of them. I know he is puppy mill and when I told him that was way to much for older dogs he changed his story to they are only 1-2 years old. I contacted a friend who runs a rescue and she would of gladly taken them but not for that amount of money. He purchased them from somebody else who got them from another kennel who sold out. I have helped my friend pull some of the adult dogs from these people and one was heartworm positive and ended up dieing because she also had a huge tumor on her stomach. She was such a sweetheart. Some of these I swear are peoples pets and are sold because they can't keep them. Any suggestions on how to hopefully get these dogs out of there so they don't end up as breeding machines like they already are?

If you suspect neglect or abuse, you can contact your local animal control and report the situation. Other than that, I don't know if there are many options other than buying the dogs and placing them.

You must really have your hands full being the breeder of 3 different breeds :yikes:

I would go see the dogs first off, walk right in and act like I was so very interested. I would have the Police Services and the Humane Society ready just incase the situation is real freakie! If not I would suggest to the individual that you would assist in placing them at a cost to him. If you can't come to terms with the person then I would say you've done what you could!

Generally if there are that many dogs in a situation most of them are sick and need help. Get the authorities involved! STAMP OUT THE MADDNESS> CLOSE THE PUPPY MILLERS DOWN! THEY SHOULD GET A JOB! AND NOT ONE THAT LIVES OFF OF THE MONEY THE DOGS CAN BRING THEM!:yikes: :yikes: :spam:

I definitely think you should report them if it really is this bad of a situation.
And I agree, most breeders put their whole selves into single breed- how do you manage three?

As to me having 3 breeds, I concentrate mostly on my doxies. The cockers are used by my son for hunting and the chihuahua is not bred unless I have enough people interested in a litter. My doxies are only bred once a year if that. I have a list I keep of potential homes before they are bred. I can't afford $9000 for any of these dogs. I don't want them. They are bigger yorkies, and not many of them are very well socialized. I was hoping for some advice or some rescue who might take these guy's for a lot lower price. There is no neglect on his part. They are fed, watered and have shelter, that's all the authority's care about. They are shaved down by them in the summer. I have seen some of the dogs.

And by the way, jingles is my chihuahua's name.

Do you show and work your own dogs? Have they been healthtested (hips, patellas, cardiac, thyroid, etc.)? Do you sell your pups with a spay/neutere contract for people that don't plan to show or work their new dog?

If you answered no to any one of those (or especially all of them), then......well..............

If you do all of the above, then forgive me.

I was wondering that also, Miakoda...why did this person approach you with buying all of those dogs?

She'll have to forgive us all, in that case. You were the one with the balls to say it outright.

I work with a rescue who has been taking the adult older breeders from this mill. She lives over and hour away. I live closer and I transport these dogs if she cannot get there. They know I am the go between and they called me instead of her to pass the message along. yes these guy's are amish. We have rescued lots of dogs this year and there are still more. I came on here to get some ideas as how to get thses dogs out of there before they sell them to another amish breeder. so far no luck.

Your only option is the authorities, and I'm sorry to say that if they have food water and shelter you are pretty much SOL. UNLESS they have obvious health problems that have not been seen by a vet....underweigh, mange, etc.

To be quite honest you shouldn't be trying to get these dogs at a lower price. If it is not a good place then they should be rescued by the shelter, for no money and go into PET homes only. These dogs coming from a mill should never be bred. I don't care whether they are 2 or 20. Socialized or not.

I hate to say it, but even if this person gets rid of all the unwanted dogs, bets are, he'll get more "younger" ones and continue what he's doing.
Very sad.
