Dekka with her pink collars gets called he, occasionally. (if they pet her and see 'princess dekka' printed on her collar they say she :D My family calls all dogs 'he', all cats 'she' and all horses 'he' too. It drives me nuts.

Generally I call all black dogs with penises "he," and all black dogs missing that rather obvious part of the anatomy "she."

Get this... at a fun match this summer, the "judge" asked me to "take her around" several times - and I was showing Ronin! Sorry, but then you are faced with a shorthaired dog - mature, intact - and you're actually LOOKING at the dog... it's beyone me how she still called Ronin a girl.

I mean... come on:

Heh! I see what you mean there sizzle, LOL

I have been out walking Orson before, and MEN coming from the SIDE view have said "she is a good looking dog" I said, "HE"......and the one guy said "Oh man, he does have a unit!" ROFLMAO!!

Like sizzle said, a short haired dog, built the way dobes are makes it pretty OBVIOUS, LOL

ACooper - someone once told me at a dog show that if Roin didn't succeed in the show ring, he'd have a good career as a porn star... my jaw nearly hit the floor. I know he's a bit, erm, bigger than most dogs in that department, but did she have to come out and actually ACKNOWLEDGE it?????

People ALWAYS think that my Papillon is a girl. Even with his black spiked collar they confuse his sex. He can't help that he's fluffy.
Annie, you should get him a black leather vest with the words "Bad MoFO" in spikes on it, and spike his hair into a faux-hawk :yikes: I think most people will figure it out that way!

Beau gets called a girl all the time. He can't help it that he's so good looking! ;)

He's fine boned (good for the breed) and very fluffy and white. (=automatic girl)

It could be a habit if you always had female or male dogs etc I have a bad habit calling all dogs "SHE", "HER" rofl

Some male dogs look feminine too purty to be a male IMO

Usually I wait & ask, I look underneath with my eyes lol or ask what's the dog's name

Eevee is often mistake for a male, even though her fur isn't even long enough to hide any male parts she'd have if she were male. She is black, so I guess they just glance and guess...

Shippo is ALWAYS mistaken for a female, probably because of his long, flowing coat and light color lol...

What REALLY annoys me is somebody who makes the mistake the first time, but then continues to refer to them using the wrong gender, even after I've corrected them lmao...

Well, the Corgies, and Dachshunds, and the toys are rather low to the ground. By the time you're close enough to look, you're looking straight down and its all hidden!

No excuses though for large breed short haired dogs. Some breeds (Dobies, GSPs) make it very obvious!

Very good point. It would be diffcult for short or/and long hair dogs to pin point of what gender it is? I guess just ask what the dog's name?

Sizzle, sounds like Ronin and Marlowe have something in common! Marlowe's no longer intact, but when we first got him my friends would come over and just sit there and point and laugh at him. Many have told me they've never seen a dog with such a huge unit! Poor Conrad! Though yes, Conrad does have rather large paws (which is why for some reason everyone thinks he's still a puppy, because any dog who's paws look look bigger than they should be gets called a pup), so there goes that myth!

Haha & maybe some leather chaps? I DO have a little "biker" hat. I'm seeing a great Halloweenie costume in the making. ~LOL~
