So I was thinking about it today that it's kind of strange that my Weim doesn't like to play with any toys. When he was a puppy the only thing he wanted to do was play tug of war. I tried to get him to chase tennis balls or even play with the kong toys, but he just doesn't like it. He'll only bring the kong or things like it because he thinks he'll get a treat.

When I do try to throw the ball he kind of cowers really quickly but then just watches it roll.

Anyone know of any way to get him to play with the tennis ball?

Try a ball on a rope, run around and drag it behind you, if your dog likes tug it should try and grab at the ball end of the rope, reward with a short game of tug then repete, eventually start tossing the ball away from you in short distance, the dog grabs it, play some more tug.

My Sugar isn't a toy doggy either. She never has been. I've tried all sorts of toys, and in the end gave up LOL. She isn't destructive, or a chewer, and is quite happy and content without them. Max on the other hand is a toy nutter..always has one in his mouth. Sometimes that inspires Sugar to toss a ball in her mouth, but thats the extent of her ball time lol

When I'm active with my dog, he is excited and active too.
When I'm feeling lazy, he'll lounge around with me.

Maybe playing ball to him means
you = passive (throwing)
him = active (running)

For him to get excited, you need to get into it as well. Run around with him, holding the ball to get his excitement up. Then throw the ball, but don't just stand there, move a little bit as well, so he'll sense ur excitement and feed off that.
